This is one of those "must-watch" videos to give you a ton of information very quickly. This is something you probably didn't hear anything about, since the only being mentioned on TV was how "Republicans blocked the energy bill."
I would love to have this guy as my Representative!

Congress must want our landfills to be infected with mercury. I say this knowing of how a good portion of americans will not follow suit with the proper disposal of these bulbs. All you have to do is look around your neigborhood's garbage cans and see how many recyclable material is where it shouldn't be.
I wonder how many people who change their own oil in their cars actually take the time to take the used engine oil to the correct facility and not just dump it somewhere in the backyard. Or any other chemicals.
This bulb idea is gonna go over real well....lol

The few compact fluorescent bulbs I use do give off heat and heat's energy wasted. Another stupid law!

When I went to our townhall meeting a few months back, people were asking our congressman (D) about this, HR1955, MCA, and other controversial bills. His response to nearly everything was essentially "don't worry, be happy.... and reelect me come Nov." He was kind enough to dismiss such "blogosphere conspiracies". He also informed us there was no Trans-Texas corridor, nor plans to expand it.

Comment by Todd - June 10, 2008, 7:01 pmI don't want anyone to get the wrong impression. I actually like compact fluorescent bulbs, and I use several in my home. But compact fluorescents are NOT good in many places -- make that MOST places. So to write a law outlawing every other type of bulb is just idiotic.
CFs do not work with dimmer switches, they do not give off a very pleasant-colored light (they are fluorescents after all), and they don't fit into all lamps.
I LIKE to use them in outdoor lamps, closets, and other places where the quality of light is not important. They are also very useful in places where it is difficult to change the bulb, because they last so long. I have used them for several years, and I have yet to have a single one burn out. That's pretty amazing, IMHO.
As amazing as that is, it is abhorrent to me that a LAW would be created to dictate their usage.
BOTTOM LINE: This is a fantastic example of the *RELIGION OF GLOBAL WARMING*. Don't let these nut case environmental radicals become mainstream, or we will be seeing a lot more of this.

They make the bulbs now in different "temperatures" (spectrum) so you can have that softer yellow lighting for reading. (Now, if they could get rid of that "hum" some of them have...)
The WTO mandates these things to be passed down in member nations. That's why we had to drop the steel tariff. They have even more goodies in store.

Comment by Todd - June 10, 2008, 7:25 pmI know they come in different temperatures, but they're still not pleasing to the eye yet. The color temperatures are achieved with different chemical coatings on the inside of the bulbs, so the source of light is not different, just the "filter" it passes through.

Comment by justxploring - June 11, 2008, 4:08 amI really want to do what's best for the environment, but I believe the lion's share of trash is created by industries and energy is wasted by big corporations, not consumers. Yes, many people are wasteful and we need to change our habits. I think most of us stopped taking those Sunday drives already! Right now I have one 40 watt bulb burning. That's it. Yes, my fridge is running (and obviously my laptop) and until South FL goes into the ice age, I can't live without air conditioning, although I use a fan much of the time. So the same way I will take long, hot showers until they stop developing golf courses, and people stop destroying our ecosystem with fertilizer & pesticides for their manicured lawns, I will buy my 4 for a buck bulbs at the dollar store.
