Comments for "Thank You To All Veterans"

Yeah, I know a lot of Nam vets that were really bad people IMO. They did some pretty down right bad stuff and were proud of it. But, that didn't mean everyone did those things. In fact, most didn't. If my dad did, he never spoke of it to me or anyone else. And he has a pretty big mouth when he drinks (he use to drink very much! Most of them that came home did.)

People are so mean about the things they don't understand. I had to draw my unemployment when I first came home from the Army. While signing up for it, one of the ladies behind the counter had the nerve to ask me "Honey, have YOU actually ever been in the military?" The redneck in me wanted to say something sarcastic like "No, I just have all the documentation because they liked the way I looked." But I held my tongue and simply said, "Yes. And I loved it. And now I am beginning to hate being home."

I was often told "you don't look like a killer." That's okay though, I'll take that advantage. I'm not the rugged image you would think of when picturing a soldier in your head. My skin is pretty soft. I wear makeup. I have a 'do'. Most say I'm pretty easy on the eyes.   I'm not the towering Amazon that so many women were that I served with. To me, I didn't feel I stuck out all that much. But to everyone else, I stuck out like a sore thumb. My drill seargents tried their best to pick on me. But I had my stuff together and they couldn't complain about much. Most of them would end up saying "You need to go to officer school. I'll recommend you." Or "you are officer material, what are you doing enlisted?"
