Canada

Tickets go on sale for Canada's new Lotto Max game

Replaces the retiring Super 7 game

First drawing of Lotto Max:  Friday, Sept. 25

The game Canada lottery players have been waiting a long time for will soon be here!

Lotto MaxThe new nation-wide Lotto Max game starts today, Sept. 19, 2009, with the first drawing held on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009.

Lotto Max, which replaces the retiring Super 7 game, will offer additional $1 million prizes once the jackpot exceeds $50 million.  Like Super 7, Lotto Max will have draws every Friday evening.

Tickets will cost $5 for a three-game play.  (The out-going Super 7 costs $2 per play, as does the current Lotto 6/49 game.)

"Lotto Max will give Canadians just what they have been asking for: high jackpots and more million dollar prizes," said British Columbia Lottery Corporation Vice president of Lottery Gaming and Interprovincial Lottery Corporation President Jim Lightbody. Speaking on behalf of Canada's five lottery corporations, Mr. Lightbody added that, "Lotto Max is an exceptional lottery game, whose Maxmillions prizes are about to transform the country's lottery landscape."

The new lottery game offers players a chance at winning jackpots that start at $10 million and can rise to $50 million. Once the jackpot exceeds $50 million, Lotto Max goes into Maxmillions mode, with the jackpot remaining at $50 million and the excess shared in a series of $1 million Maxmillions prizes.

All Maxmillions will have their own individual draws and sets of winning numbers.

The Lotto Max game will be run by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation which works with the five lottery corporations owned by provincial governments.
