Clearing your cache to try and fix page errors

Every time you visit a Web page, your browser saves the contents of the page, as well as all the images and other files that are necessary to make it work.  Then, when you re-visit the same page, it uses the saved files for that page, because it's quicker than having to download them again.

That's why the second time you visit a Web page is almost always quicker than the first time you visit it.

The storage place where everything is saved is called the cache (sounds like "cash").

The problem is that on occasion Lottery Post has new versions of important files, but your computer is still trying to use the ones that are stored in your cache.  The result is that the web page does not operate properly, and you may get error messages.  The solution is to clear all of the saved files from your cache.  Then, the next time you visit a web page, your computer is forced to download new versions of all the files, and everything works like it should.

Clearing out your cache of temporary Internet files will NOT damage your computer or hamper your web browsing. In fact, it's a good practice to clear out your cache once a week — just like changing the oil in your car:  it's good, healthy maintenance.

If you don't know the version of the browser your using, select "Help" and then "About".

Scroll down to locate your browser's instructions on clearing your cache.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 (IE8)

• From within the IE8 web browser, click the Safety button in the upper-right of the window.
• If you have enabled the icon-only view on the toolbar, look for the icon that looks like a shield.  The button may also be available by clicking the double-right arrow ("»").
• Select Delete Browsing History... from the drop-down Safety menu.
• Place a checkmark next to Temporary Internet Files, and clear the checkmarks from anything that you do not wish to clear.
• Make sure Cookies does NOT have a checkmark next to it, or you will get logged off from Lottery Post.
• Cick the Delete button.
• Your computer may take a moment to finish, but you are returned to your browsing session automatically.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 (IE7)

• From within the IE7 web browser, click the Tools button in the upper-right of the window.
• If the word "Tools" does not exist there, look for the icon that looks like a gear. The button may also be available by clicking the double-right arrow ("»").
• Select Delete Browsing History... from the drop-down Tools menu.
• In the "Temporary Internet Files" section, click the Delete files... button.
• When it asks "Are you sure?" click Yes.
• Your computer may take a minute or two to delete everything.
• When it's finished, click Close.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (IE6)

• From within the IE6 web browser, click the Tools menu.
• In the Tools menu, click Internet Options....
• Click the General tab.
• Click Delete Files. (NOTE: Do not select Delete Cookies. Delete Files removes all the cookies stored on the computer, and you will be logged off from Lottery Post.
• Your computer may take a minute or two to delete everything.
• Click OK on the Delete Files dialog box.
• Click OK to exit the window.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x and 5.x (IE4/IE5)

• Choose Tools from the main menu (at the top of the IE window).
• Click on Internet Options, and the Internet Options window will appear.
• Look for the "Temporary Internet Files" box towards the middle of the window.
• Click the Delete Files... button.
• Click OK on the pop-up that asks, "Delete all files in the Temporary Internet Files folder?". You don't need to put a check in the "Delete all offline Content" box.
• Your computer may take a minute or two to delete everything.
• Once your cursor reverts from the hourglass to the normal cursor, click the OK button at the bottom.

Firefox 2.x/3.x

• Choose Tools from the main menu (at the top of the Firefox window).
• Choose Clear Private Data... from the Tools menu
• In the box that pops up, make sure Cache has a checkmark next to it.
• Make sure Cookies does NOT have a checkmark next to it, or you will get logged off from Lottery Post.
• Click the Clear Private Data Now button.
• Your computer may take a minute or two to delete everything.

Google Chrome

• Click the toollbar icon that looks like a wrench (see image at right).
• Select the Clear browsing data... from the menu.
• Place a checkmark next to Empty the cache, and clear the checkmarks from anything that you do not wish to clear. 
• Make sure Delete cookies does NOT have a checkmark next to it, or you will get logged off from Lottery Post.
• Change "Clear data from this period" to Everything.
• Click the Clear Browsing Data button.
• The window automatically closes once the cache is cleared.

Opera 9.x

• Click Tools menu and select Preferences.
• Select the Advanced tab.
• In the left pane, select History.
• Click the Empty Now button on the middle of the right side.
• The window may pause while the cache is cleared. When control resumes, click OK or Cancel to exit the Preferences window.

Safari 2.x/3.x

• If you have Safari for Windows, click the Edit menu and choose Empty Cache.
• If you have Safari for Mac, click the Safari menu and choose Empty Cache.
• In the warning dialog that appears, click Empty.
• Your computer may pause for a moment to delete everything, but Safari generally clears the cache very quickly.
