Here's Gail Howard's actual quote (from the book Lotto Winning Wheels for Powerball and Mega Millions):

If the majority of tickets sold are Quick Picks, then it makes sense that the majority of jackpots won should be won with Quick Picks.  However, when I saw the actual figures, I found that you have a better chance of winning by picking numbers randomly out of a hat than by using Quick Picks.

And that's all she says of that subject.

There is no supporting data, and that statement really doesn't make any sense at all.  She certainly doesn't say that the percentage of jackpots won with Quick Picks is less than the percentage sold as Quick Picks.

It's a big cop-out designed to lure readers into thinking that they have a really good chance of winning with her theories.

Yes it says the same thing in Lottery Master Guide, among the info I posted earlier. Hmm her book was revised in 2003, and the NY Lotto QP info was from 1996. It doesnt say what date her Canadian QP info is from. I believe she is on the up and up from the actual jackpot winners she has written about, plus her media interviews and face-to-face lectures. I hope she isnt playing down the QP info so that more people will buy her system software.

I wouldnt say people have a really good chance of winning a jackpot in spite of the people who have won jackpots using her techniques, but I would say they definitely have a better chance of at least winning smaller prizes, (not often) but more often than by using no techniques at all.

About NY being the worst, it is in regards to the payback % on Lotto (38%-40%).

That is why Oregon is one of the best states due to its higher than normal payout on games.  I was recently in ontario and loved the encore game but now I think its horrible. Adding a number to make the odds of hitting it 10 million to one for a million bucks.  Why does every game a state or country offer need to be a huge jackpot game.  It really is bad.  Like Michigan and Ohio want to have a duel state game with a big jackpot.  How many of these games do we need. Bring back the old LIttle Lotto in ILL, where at least you have a shot at one day hitting 5 out of 5.  Or you got paid decent for hitting four out of five.  Sometimes i wonder why I even waste my money.
