Mega Millions

A single player has won the grand prize from the latest Mega Millions lotto drawing with a ticket bought in the Dallas suburb of Rowlett.

Lottery officials said the winning ticket from Tuesday night's drawing worth $112 million was sold at the Dal-Rock Grocery.

Store owner John Kamali said Wednesday that he was preparing to go open his other store when one of his employees called with the word. That was just the first of a cascade of phone calls about the drawing.

"I feel great," Kamali said. "It was the best news all this year and last year. It was very good news. I'm very excited."

He said he does not know who bought the winning ticket, but he does know that his store receives a bonus of $1.12 million 1 percent of the jackpot.

That was also good news to assistant store manager Phillip Marks. "It has been ecstatic here all morning long," he said. "We're just hoping the winner will come in and identify themselves."

The winning numbers from Tuesday night's drawing were: 1, 8, 18, 39 and 48. The Mega Ball number was 1.

This is the second time a ticket bought in Texas has won the Mega Millions jackpot. Both were sold in the Dallas area.

In October, Ut Van Nguyen of Carrollton won $62 million on the cash-value option from a $101 million jackpot.

Besides the grand prize winner, eight players matched all five numbers but not the Mega Ball number. They will receive second prizes of $175,000 each.

Another 56 players matched four numbers, plus the Mega Ball number good for third prizes of $5,000 each.

While he was happy for his store's good fortune, Marks said it could have been even better for him. "I bought three tickets and was hoping they'd win, but unfortunately, I didn't win."

Glad to see Texas is in the 1% to store owners club, some states cap it out and are extremely stingy when selling big jackpots.

Hopefully Dal-Rock Grocery is a little Ma + Pa store and not some big chain.  Nothing against rich people, I just enjoy seeing the guy who needs it more win it.

wonder how long it'll be before the winner turns it in....

CASH Only

TX requires the cash/annuity choice when you play. AFAIK if they made the wrong choice, it would be the largest US lottery prize to be paid through an annuity.

Hopefully not until he sees his attorney, tax planner and financial planner.

But whatever he does great for him/her

Even worse... if the machine isn't able to read the Cash Option box, it defaults to Annuity.  A couple of times, I've had slips fade a bit from the sun, and the dang machine didn't read my filled in Cash Option.

Hey Ya'll!  To answer the question about Dal-rock Grocery in Rowlett it is small owned and I go their everyday.  YES I'm kicking myself for not buying a ticket!!  I joked with the owners that they should have told me to buy one!!ha ha

This store was very small about 13 years ago when we moved here and u would get your fishing license and bait here as well as goodies.  It was really kinda ug!!  But the owners were so nice.

About 4 to 5 years ago the owners tore it down and joined on with Mobil and it became a beautiful convenience store with the car wash and gas.  The people who run it along with many family members are some of the nicest people you will ever meet.  I am so happy for them.  I went in 3x today.  I hugged each one and said come here you millionaire you and he laughed.  He was grinning from ear to ear.  He said hey they have to claim that ticket for me to get paid.  He said his CPA had already called him.  The buzz at first was one of our council members won however, one of the family members who sold the ticket said I remember 2 ladies came in handed me a 100.00 bill a little after 7 and bought either 25 or 30 quick picks!!!!

He looked up the time it sold and truly believes it was one of them.  How exciting for our small town!

Wish I had bought one yesterday.  They said yesterday alone sold 77 tickets.  One of the policmen who bought some yesterday showed up the same time I did shaking his head to the owner.  The owner siad was it you and he said no.  The owner said you bought yesterday didn't you he said yep.  He truly looked bummed.  The owner said I bought 5 myself and did not hit.  Well we all know he hit something.

Austin is a 3 hour drive to claim the ticket so here we go which neighbor took the 3 hour drive today is the question.

Oh well there u have it.  Good luck and from now on I am buying 3 a week just in case.  Right now I am truly kickin myself in the you know what!
