Lottery Post reported yesterday that the Texas Lottery has been accused of falsely inflating jackpots to drive ticket sales, leading to charges of false advertising.
The Texas Lottery Commission says the estimated jackpot will remain at $8 million.
A critic earlier sent a letter to Attorney General Greg Abbott accusing the commission of false advertising.
Dawn Nettles is publisher of the Lotto Report, a publication devoted to criticizing the Texas Lottery.
An Abbott spokesman says AG officials looked into the matter and believe that the commission is taking necessary measures to address the issue.
The commission says ticket sales, along with the current interest rate factor, don't support an increase in the estimated jackpot.
Lottery officials are also looking at changing Lotto Texas rules to make sure jackpots don't exceed sales again.
Officials can access lottery reserves to make a payment if ticket sales don't cover the jackpot.
