Even though the grand prize was not awarded Saturday, a lucky player in Tennessee won $1 million with Power Play, plus 927,446 players across the nation won a total of more than $9.6 million in prizes in America's Game. Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $180 million. The cash option for the Wednesday, October 5th drawing will be an estimated $88.7 million. The numbers drawn Saturday evening were 8, 18, 38, 45, 54 and the Powerball was 23. The Power Play multiplier was 5. Ten players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $200,000. Their winning tickets were purchased in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, New Hampshire (2), and Pennsylvania (2). One lucky player in Tennessee not only matched the 5 white numbers, but also purchased the Power Play and multiplied their $200,000 prize by 5 for a total win of $1 million cash. Forty players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Seven additional winners of that prize category also purchased the Power Play option, giving them a total win of $50,000. More than 103,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 5 Saturday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier. Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels. Players purchased more than $37.1 million worth of tickets between Thursday and Saturday night. The lotteries sold approximately 2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY05. I would have to say I like the 180 million dollar jackpot....but the increase from the previous drawing was sure dissapointing. If the jackpot reaches record levels it will be interesting to see the cap come into play. Powerball really did lower the percentage of sales to go into the jackpot? Didn't that pretty much defeat the purpose of changing the annuity structure? Brad | | |

Everyone seems so focused on hitting a new record, like rooting for a sports team. I sort of understand it, but I really don't feel that same burning need to set a record. I guess I just don't tie myself emotionally to having the state lottery jackpot reach new record levels. If it happens, it happens. If not, I'm happy with big jackpots as they are. For me, I just like the jackpot to get over $100 million, and then I'll play again and again. On average, I'll probably play once per week when it's below $100 million. | | |

I am not even in a PB state so I don't buy tickets for that game anyway. I just like to see really big jackpots because of the media attention they get. Then it gets everyone playing. It just seems more fun that way. But I agree, I usually don't start buying tickets until it hits the $100 million mark. When I win the jackpot I want it to be worth it (over $50 million cash). haha Brad | | |

I too really don't get fired up for records to be set. When it happens it's cool, but if it doesn't oh well. I mean really, I would be just as happy winning a 15 million dollar jackpot as I would be a 180 million dollar jackpot. But then, that's just me I guess. =)  Dance like no one is watching.

Selfishness prevents me from encouraging record breaking. I want to go back to the jackpots more frequently. The more jackpots, the better my chances. I say that, while wishing I could win this huge number!!

I remember the days when $50M was considered a large jackpot, but times have changed. We need to satisfy our hunger. I think the cash prize fails to impress me. Everybody has a prize level below which they don't play or they just play every drawing in which case the jackpot would be irrelevant. For me it's been 300 million for years. And it's been years since it's been 300 million. Media outlets didn't even bother covering Megamillions at $250 million so I'm sure for most media outlets the pot has to be near 300 just to get their attention or it has to be a very slow news day.
