I hope the jackpot rolls over and breaks the North American jackpot record holder of 363 millions set by Mega Millions [formely The Big Game]. Lots of people are going to gamble with the largest jackpot in PB history.
You realize that if it rolls on Wendsday that the pot will be 365 but still below the record thanks to Powerballs inflated annuity. The cash prize will be around 176 million which may only place it as the third largest unless it's more than 176.7 million. The only record Powerball seems intrested in is the largest second prize.
Fortunately, the record is based on the annuity, not the cash, so it will indeed be the North American record if it rolls Wednesday.

Fortunately, the record is based on the annuity, not the cash, so it will indeed be the North American record if it rolls Wednesday. It takes a lump sum of money to buy the annuity, so despite any claims to the contrary the advertised annuity jackpot is based on the cash available for purchasing the annuity. There is no such thing as the "cash value" of the prize, and the only thing that's actually based on the annuity value is the advertising. The only record that's being broken is for the largest advertised jackpot. If the lotteries were a private enterprise they'd probably have been sued for misleading advertising a long time ago.

How is that misleading advertising? It is perfectly legal for lotteries to invest jackpot prizes just so they can pay out a higher jackpot than they could all by themselves. I think it's respectful that they have a match 5 bonus pool - the Powerball folks just know when to say "enough is enough" - how much do lottery jackpot winners really need?

Personally I think Mega Millions has the better approach with no cap and a much higher cash prize. The only way you'll get the whole amount is to play in Canada or Europe where you get the money tax free and in cash. The only thing that the states that participate in PB or MM will care about though is sales and we'll have to wait until MM goes on a roll before anyone can compare who's right.

Al the talk about "no truth in advertising", etc., is a bunch of boloney. You actually get the amount advertised if you choose annuity. Anyone who thinks it's false advertising is just proving that they are sour grapes -- nothing else.

A line of 22 people (yes, I counted) outside my gas station tonight! Probably another 5-10 inside. It's Monday! 50 hours til the drawing! All up and down US Route 1 inside Connecticut, lines of 10-15 people. What will Wednesday bring? I had a rough time trying to buy just my Cash 5 ticket, after I drove 6 miles away from the border!

Thanks Chewie for that fun site. When I win this week's Powerball I will have my new "homes" built by John Henry @ johnhenryarchitect.com and while I wait I play on this virtual tour site http://www.homedebut.com/
My friends and I play a game with the home debut site. We each pick a state and then a number. The number is the home we get! You will understand once you get on this site. Have fun!

Yep it's been Powerball fever here and the stores have been busy. I would not want to be a cashier during these times. Dance like no one is watching.

At least PB is still a TRUE drawing... I would hate to see what would happpen to the JP if it was computerized. This way we know someone, eventually, WILL hit it.

Chewie, I showed that site to Daisy, she want to live in Tennessee. No hurricanes, and no earthquakes(at least not every other week). I think we decided to live on either Signal Mtn. or Lookout Mtn. Did I mentions she also wants a brownstone in the Lincoln Park district of Chicago. good luck to all who play wensday! as always I'm Destinedtowin.
