I realize that you eventually have to come forward and all winnings are public records, but why in the world would anyone in his right mind want people to know he had the winning ticket?  Of course I'd eventually give to charities and be generous to my family (depending on the size of the jackpot) but I'd try to remain as anonymous as possible, before and after claiming the money.

The spot light is extremely difficult to master.  Few can ignore the glory.  Professionals succumb easily, imagine how some one who was a nobody, yesterday, is going to react.

Cheers

Well let me have this $225 MM Jackpot and I'l show everybody how low under the radar you should fly.  In Maryland I could claim it in Trust and not show up at headquarter Central.  My attorney would.  And although some brave soul would comb through public records, they could all they want, where I'd live behind a gated mansion, with my favorite pets patrolling the inner sanctum of the property ROTTWEILERS x 3.  Inside cousins Smith & Wesson secure all precious souls. hahahahahahahahahah

Finally.  The Drama is Over.  Is it true that the PowerBall and MegaMIllions have a JackPot Cap?    If there is a CAP on the amount of the jackpots, what is the cap for each?

I don't think there is a limit on how high the jackpots can go, despite rumors that there's some bogus law limiting jackpots of both games to $500 million.

What is true is that Powerball has a cap on ROLLOVERS whenever its jackpot reaches a record level; it limits rollovers to $25 million and puts the rest of the cash in a match 5 bonus pool; in fact, the $340 million jackpot produced a match 5 bonus pool of $32 million cash, which was split 49 ways between all the match 5+0 winners, in addition to their normal $200,000 prizes plus any PowerPlay winnings (the bonus is not multplied since it is a "second jackpot pool").

Mega Millions does not have a limit on rollovers at any jackpot level.

DELS.......(whatever that stands for)......you are absolutely right about our prize winnings....As a resident of Bethesda I can concurr w/that statement, we have the option of either doing the News Conference, or doing as you suggest.......even without the "ROTTWEILERS x 3" or the "cousins Smith & Wesson".I won't need any of those, the only one coming after me will be Satan's Cousin, I.R.S....and he always get's his cut of the action....With or Without the Public Records...lololololol

I Agree! SOO TOTALLY!!! I ALWAYS LOOK 4WARD TO READING HIS COMMENT. I WOULD GET OFFENDED IF I WASN'T SUCH A GOOD SPORT BECAUSE HE DONE SAID IT ALL. WHAT HE SAYS HURTS BUT TRUE. OH, I WISH THE WEST FAMILY CAN AT LEAST SAY ONE WORD IN HERE. I WOULD SOO LOVE TO HEAR WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT ALL THIS. WELL I KNOW THEY WON'T CARE BECAUSE THEY HAVE $$$$$ NOW, BUT I'M PRETTY SURE THAT WON'T CHANGE THEIR STUPIDITY. I SO CAN'T GET OVER WITH HONOR STUDENT- WHAT'S HIS NAME AGAIN? WHAT WAS THAT NEWS AGAIN??? HONOR STUDENT MISSED HIS EXAM BECAUSE OF HIS DAD WINNING THE JACKPOT. MONEY WOULD COME IN HANDY FOR HIM NOW TO KEEP HIM HEALTHY, SINCE HE'S SOO HORNY.

Another West Virginian. Ok, so I am starting to think you have to be from or at least driven through West Virginia to win the big PB jackpots.. LOL

You might be right.  Milton, WV is 4 miles from Hurricane, West Virginia.  Anyone care to guess which lottery winner hailed from Hurricane?
