A Milton, West Virginia, native living in Oregon claims he won the $340 million Powerball lottery jackpot, according to his sister in Milton.

Sylvia Neal said at first she didn't believe her brother, Robert Chaney, 72, when he called her the night of the drawing and said he was not only a millionaire, but a multimillionaire.

"You hear these things; you know it is true, but it did not sink in," Neal said. "It is beginning to sink in. I feel at peace. We have always been close. He is a wonderful person. It couldn't happen to anyone more deserving than him."

The Oregon Lottery Commission hasn't named the Powerball winner and posted on its Web page that the commission will announce the winner at 8 a.m. on Monday.

Neal said she and her brother grew up in Milton. Chaney moved away after joining the Air Force. He comes back to Milton regularly to visit the many friends he has in the Milton community, Neal said.

Chaney will split the Powerball winnings 50-50 with his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Steve West, Neal said. Chaney and Steve West had both bought the ticket, Neal said.

"They were driving around and decided to put money into buying a Powerball ticket," Neal said.

The money won't change her brother, Neal said. He will remain a modest and compassionate person, she said.

"I am sure they will buy a new home and new vehicles," Neal said. "He is very conservative with money. He will have a good life and good medical care. He will help all his kids. He cares about me a lot."

Neal said the family has been trying to stay out of the spotlight. (Editor: maybe she should offer that same advice to the Wests.) Chaney was unavailable for comment Thursday evening.

After I saw the name I thought the West guy was a hoax...but I guess he is family.  Not a bad return for buying a little sheet or paper hey.

Well, the family made it a week without another news release. Congradulations.

Another West Virginian. Ok, so I am starting to think you have to be from or at least driven through West Virginia to win the big PB jackpots.. LOL

It's good that the Neal's wanted to stay out of the spotlight. To bad Steve West seemed to want the press.

The Neals didn't do a very good job of staying out of the spotllight.  Sylvia is right up talking away. Just like the West crew. Fame an fortune always rules.

HAPPY SATURDAY..........11/5/05.....

1ST)...I played M M last night, am pleased to see that the new $$$$ is 225,000,000.00...How Nice!! We all still have a chance to win!!!!! bigggggg......

2ND)....As for Steve & Syndicate......Now it all finally makes sense. But I agree, he and his side of the family were tooooo "mouthy".....especially Steve...and should have waited till Grand-Pa, was ready to come forward...Perhaps he wanted to settled the distribution, in leu of accepting the winnings which makes sense to me....Grand-Pa is a wise Man. He wasn't looking for the Publicity. As for  Carolyn's comment to Steve .....I'm sure she got over that. Her Father doesn't mind letting the money change his life, not one bit, as long as he can control the changes being made......

Now....time for Lurking & champaigne....................

Family of who, another ALLEGED winner?  There is a story here on this website of that guy who won around $93 million earlier this year playing Powerball in New Mexico and the story said quite a few other people had claimed they had won before the real winner came forward.

The actual winner of the $340 million could still be anybody.

Nah - the West's would never lie to us. He's an honest business man.

Finally.  The Drama is Over.  Is it true that the PowerBall and MegaMIllions have a JackPot Cap?    If there is a CAP on the amount of the jackpots, what is the cap for each?
