These folks are really endangering themselves if they slow this lottery up

These people that make the laws are supposed to be for the people.  The people in North Carolina want a lottery.  Why let them keep sending those dollars to nearby states?  I just don't understand these people.

Well, the thing is that NC is mostly Republican, and when the lottery was put up for vote in the House, it would get shot down because of the Republican majority. Nobody has ever given us the opportunity to vote on it, but I think most people would like to see it regardless or party lines, just because VA and SC are robbing us of valuable education dollars.

Why is it so hard for these idiots to understand, that if you don't want to play the lottery, you don't have to buy a ticket!  I wish they would leave my free will alone.  I want to make the decision of rather or not I want to play.

They said they were going to file a lawsuit when it first passed.  I wondered what happened with that.  It's interesting that two of the people in this lawsuit have old money and new money in Charlotte. 

I think rich people is the reason the fight is so hard to keep a lottery out of NC.  They want to make sure they keep their money and stop people they don't like,  (store owners) get rich.

I can see power bills not being paid and that company monopolize. One person in this lawsuit is a rental/housing mogul.  I guess he is afraid that people will gamble their rent money away.  There must be some stats on when a lottery is first put in place and low income rent, and other defaults.  I wouldn't put it past the bank king here is not behind it either.  They are behind everything and control everything too.

And the other got so much money why should they care.  They have a wing in every building in Charlotte.  Especially for the elitist, like the opera and museums.

I don't think the lawsuit will fly.  The lottery is too far in place to turn back.  The teachers in Charlotte will not stand for it either because they are probably counting the money to buy the things that CMS won't supply.

They will never put it to a vote because the teachers will blow it off the map.  I can't think of any other reason the leaders here do not want a lottery, other than they are just a bunch of idiots.

Tenaj - you have lived here long enough to know we have a lot of boobs in this area. I agree with you though that it is too far along to stop now. If the state's counsel thought that this lawsuit would fly, they certainly wouldn't be putting out the press releases they have been that have shown up here at LP. You would think the commercial real estate people that own all of these convenience stores in the area would be thrilled since its more gross receipts which translates to more rental income in many instances. But who knows? This place has been so conservative so long and had the status quo for so long that anything changing it gets people in an uproar, especially those old money bankers.

The government in this city has suppressed CMS long enough, and this lottery will help establish us as a school system that you would be proud of, like back in the 70s when I was a kid. Because it went down so quickly, thanks to the fumbling of the government, I ended up at private school down Providence, and I am considering sending my son to that same school. My daughter essentially gets a private education at Eastover, but how long can I depend on that being so good without more money to CMS?? A lottery is a must, or I might find myself moving to Fort Mill, SC where I know the taxes are better, the schools are top flight in York County, and well, they aren't afraid of a lottery! :)

   Eastover is a good school.  It's in Eastover for God's sake.  You can smell the money as you walk up Cherokee and Hempstead Place.

I worked right there at the Mint Museum for 15 years with a lot of teachers, and volunteered in the community.  The univeristies too. 

The schools in South Charlotte are well taken care of - Providence Rd included.  I saw the difference in the students from within both private and public schools as they toured the museum and you can tell the difference and there were big differences.  The best schools are the ones where the PTA is huge with a lot of parental involvement. 

There are a bunch of idiots heading up CMS though.  They just can't seem to get it together.

Tenaj - isn't that the truth about Eastover? LOL ... when I drop my girl off every morning, its funny watching these perfectly made up moms walking their kids to school (what person gets up at 5am to get dressed up to walk their kids to school?? LOL). Not to mention all the Lexus and all that pull up during that time. Good thing I've been promised a new car next spring :)

You are also right about the CMS system...run by buffoons. And I thought going to Latin was a prison camp, but looking back, I am certainly glad I had that opportunity.

Well lets just hope this lawsuit gets laughed out of court (if it even makes it that far!).

cps10- you went to Latin?  I went to Catholic.....I wish I had gone to public school...or another private school.

I must say many of the public schools in CMS could use the money (that way they will stop raising taxes- or at least slow it down!).....they need to use it to buy books, fix buildings, get rid of the trailers, etc.

Just my $0.02 on the matter. 

West Charlotte Senior High!

Still got one of the best high stepping bands in NC.  I was there when "Pop Miller" was there. People didn't want the different races to go to school together so both sides would get together to start a fake riot. 

My brother would always throw the first chair (he'd get expelled of course) and then after that food would be all over the cafeteria. School would be out for a couple days. The newspapers would be talking about race riot among the students and we would be giggling because we knew it was no such a thing.

The school has had it's on and off years, but it was a great school when my daughters graduated from there too.  At least my daughters had some good teachers.

Even the alma mater was worth singing. 

I still remember the words.

Ladyluck - yes, I went to Latin for 11 long years...my mom taught there, so I really didn't have much choice. I lived a half mile from Myers Park, which is where I wanted to go to get more exposure in baseball. I went to Carolina to play, but I think the fact that I went to a medium sized private school that didn't get much publicity in the Observer, I wasn't going to start. Oh well...but, that being said, I coached JV Baseball at Catholic with a co-worker for 3 years. That was a lot of fun. I used to play against Coach Belk while I was at Latin, and then I got to work alongside him and Coach Oddo. That was great.

Tenaj - that is funny...the things we did as kids to get out of school, right? :) I would say a third of my friends went to WC and MP, then the others were divided among South, East, Providence Day and Country Day. Geez...the old days...I can't believe my 20th reunion is coming up. Ugggghhhhh....
