But at least Lane Rogers' waitress got a pretty good tip. The 38-year-old Alma, Arkansas, truck driver walked out of the lottery commission office Monday with a giant cardboard check tucked under his arm. He also carried a real check, which he said will help him and his wife build a new house. Rogers' ticket matched five numbers in Saturday's Powerball drawing, just one Powerball number away from scoring the $180 million jackpot. Another $200,000 ticket with five matching numbers was sold in Norman, but that person hasn't come forward. Delwin Gray of Bethany won $40,000 and a ticket sold in Tulsa won $10,000 on Saturday.

I think this is a great story, because it shows that you don't need to win $200 million to get excited. Instead of moaning "Oh, I was so close to $180M" (which is something I might do) he's happy he'll be able to build a new home, although I'm estimating he'll only have about $125,000 left after taxes. Still, not a bad surprise!

He also carried a real check, which he said will help him and his wife build a new house. Interesting, he got the to keep the cardboard check, and got his money immediately. Bet the people at "Quick Check" would be surprised if he walked in the door with a real check for that amount!

$200,000 is a very nice sum. Yet if he asked for the Power Play he could have walked away with $800,000. The article doesn't say how many tickets he bought but if all you do is buy one ticket it is definitely worth putting out the extra dollar for a Power Play. But for those people who buy many,many more tickets per game I can see Power Play not being that attractive if your sole aim is to win the jackpot rather than hope to win the lower prize amounts. | | |

The article doesn't say how many tickets he bought but if all you do is buy one ticket it is definitely worth putting out the extra dollar for a Power Play. But for those people who buy many,many more tickets per game I can see Power Play not being that attractive if your sole aim is to win the jackpot rather than hope to win the lower prize amounts. Excellent point. I have NEVER bought a Powerball ticket without the PowerPlay feature since it started. If you live in a state without a state lottery, the best way to protest is to Participate in neighboring state lottery. If you can't travel to buy tickets you can call the Massachusetts lottery. They have a subscription service and there are no residency restrictions. It also toll free, have a look at their website. We adults should be allowed to decide how we choose to spend our money. | | |

ALL state lotteries should be available to non-residents and without soaking you the way they do to purchase online Powerball tickets. If you win such a lottery for a small amount it could be deposited into your bank or a check sent to you.

I only regret not picking Powerplay when I hit a few numbers; I never regret when I don't hit any numbers.
