$267 million Mega Millions lottery ticket sold in Ohio

Mega MillionsMega Millions: $267 million Mega Millions lottery ticket sold in Ohio

The winning ticket from the $267 million Mega Millions drawing Tuesday night was sold in the northwest Ohio town of Lyons, an Ohio Lottery spokeswoman said.

The ticket was purchased at Lyons Main Stop, lottery spokeswoman Marie Kilbane told The Associated Press.

Store manager Linda Freeworth said she received the news from a radio station that called about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday. Radio and television reporters arrived soon after for interviews.

"I've never been a big time winner. People laugh because this is a small town and nothing ever happens here," she told The AP in a telephone interview.

Lyons is 26 miles west of Toledo, near the Ohio-Michigan line.

Lottery officials planned a news conference later Wednesday, Kilbane said.

Freeworth said she had not spoken with lottery officials and did not know who bought the winning ticket.

The winning numbers from Tuesday night's drawing were 2, 4, 35, 36 and 48. The Mega Ball number was 22.

In addition to the grand prize winner, 22 tickets matched all five numbers but not the Mega Ball: 4 from California, 2 from Georgia, 3 from Illinois, 2 from New Jersey, 7 from New York, 2 from Ohio, 1 from Texas, and 1 from Virginia.  The winners will receive second prizes of $250,000 each.

The 4 California winners will receive $237,869 each because California prize amounts are calculated based on the amount of sales and the number of winners.

Another 134 tickets matched four numbers, plus the Mega Ball number — good for third prizes of $10,000 each ($8,109 in California).

Congrats to the Winner(s)!  I sure would have liked to see 2 more rolls at least.  I love it when the whole country gets hyped up!

Well, I'll see what my tickets already purchased for the next 2 draws can bring.  But I'll hibernate again until either PB or MM gets around $100m.

Ohio has to be one of the luckiest states out there. Amazing how Illinois hasnt won a big MM jackpot in a long time.

Don't forget.  Ohio lottery winners can form a trust and remain ANONYMOUS if the lawyer claims the prize on behalf of the trust.

Smart lottery winners form trust to claim their winnings.  They send an attorney to the lottery headquarters to claim the prize in trust, so that ONLY the name of the trust is revealed.  And they tell NO ONE, especially relatives.

If you ever win a lottery and you are single, the only person you should ever marry is someone who was truly in love with you BEFORE you won the jackpot!

Oh, I wish, I wish. Northern Ohio gets most of the Ohio winners. It's almost like southwestern ohio doesn't exist. Maybe next time. Congrats to the winner. Illinois won like 3 times in the first year of mega-millions for Ohio when nobody won in Ohio. That's a note for the person who said Ohio was the luckiest place.

Lyon is a real boarder city so maybe the winner is from Michigan.  Can happen when the retailer is so close to a state border.

Hi, I thought it is available in all states, I mean shouldn't everybody be able to hire a lawyer if they want to. And do you know how it works exaclty, what is the cost or disadvantages of that.
                          thanks..

Congratulations to Ohio for winning the jackpot. If nobody had won the jackpot, the estimated jackpot for Friday would have been 331 million or an increase of 54 million [estimated]. I wonder if a group won a jackpot or an individual?
