Both the PowerBall and MegaMillions states contribute approximately 32% of the money from their ticket sales to the jackpot pool. Most states will include a breakdown on their websites. * What happens most *
* will most likely happen again *

I wouldn't complain about $178,750. That still is a nice amount of money. I dont think that any of us would ... I just think that people are venting about the MISS leading information and the DOUBLE STANDARDS that come along with it What misleading information? The California lottery website says that all prizes are paid on a parimutuel basis, the websites for the other MM states tell you exactly how much you'll get for any given prize level, and the rules stay the same every week. It doesn't take much more effort to find out that only the jackpot is a multi-state game, and that all of the lower prizes are handled strictly within the individual states. Not getting $265 million when that's what was advertised is misleading. Getting exactly what the rules said you'd get isn't.
Were talking in advertisement. You dont go into each state and see each payout. Your local store advertises what your CHECK will be???? If so Man I am in the wrong state cause Ohio dont got it together like that. They advertised 265 Mill. NOT the correct amount of what your check payment or eft to you is going to be. That is what is misleading. That is what has always been a issue and will continue to be til they sale it correctly!

On their website Ohio has the Cash Option Value posted under the Jackpot amount. Anyone who can post at LP can read their web page. Many of the stores selling lottery tickets don't take enough interest to maintain their card stock or update their jackpot notices, I wouldn't depend on them or their clerks for any information. One time when the lottery had a free ticket promotion, I had to tell the store clerk that the free ticket belonged to the person buying the tickets and not to the clerk selling the tickets. * What happens most *
* will most likely happen again *

They have the lump sum value but NOT what you would be taking home to the bank ... in ohio you can ALMOST cut that in half AGAIN

If you went for a job interview, would you expect to be told what your salary would be or how much you'd actually have after taxes? How would an employer or the lottery even know how much your taxes would be, especially before they even know who you are? I think it would be great if more states exempted their own lottery prizes from state income taxes since the state already skimmed 50% on the ticket price, but nobody is being mislead just because some people might not know their income is taxable. The clever people can figure out about how much money a win would actually put in their pocket. For those that aren't that clever life in general may not go as well as it does for smarter people. For my part, I can think of plenty of things I'd rather be disappointed about than finding out my lottery win didn't put as much money in my pocket as I thought it would.

The CA payouts are not the only thing about MM that's not the same in all 12 states. Texas has the Megaplier, and of course NY and Texas (if not also NJ) require the cash/annuity choice when you PLAY. Texans can win more money from the prizes under the jackpot, but that feature costs an extra $1, so that's not really unfair to the other states.

OHHHHH BUT I BEG TO DIFFER Keeping it "Fair" MM and PB give you to option to maximize your winnings. Texas has the megaplier others have the "Kicker" I hit alot of 2 and 7 dollar tickets BUT PAY THE EXTRA DOLLAR for the KICKER and dont get NOTHING MAXIMIZED if I dont get the kicker numbers ... BUT get a MM Ball and play the MMplier and get that times the number drawn I dont see anything FAIR about that. If we had the MMplier then my profits would be higher instead of playing the kicker and gettin Nothing. Sorry I just disagree with ya. I play PB and win on less tickets but win more money cause of the Power Play.
