Florida Lottery: Florida woman claims $11 million Lotto jackpotJust what do you do with $6.1 million?
Titusville neighbors now have a chance to ask one of their own after 54-year-old Della Nelson claimed the state's coveted Florida Lotto prize Tuesday morning in Tallahassee.
Nelson chose a one-time lump sum of $6.1 million — before taxes — nearly a week after purchasing the winning ticket in the $11 million drawing, officials said.
"She came forward this morning," said Leslie Steele, a Florida Lottery spokeswoman.
Nelson purchased her winning ticket from the Circle K store at 200 Cheney Highway in Titusville. The store received $20,000 for selling the top-winning ticket for last Saturday night's lottery drawing.
"God blessed us with this money for a reason," said Nelson in a statement released by lottery officials.
Nelson and her husband said in a statement that they plan to build a new home and pay bills with the winnings.
The current Florida Lotto jackpot is $6 million, and will be drawn on Saturday.
