Biggest N.Y. Lotto jackpot in a year; third-largest in the world

There was no first prize winner in Saturday night's New York Lotto drawing, causing the jackpot to rollover to $45 million for Wednesday evening's drawing.

The jackpot is currently the third-largest lottery jackpot in the world, and the largest New York Lotto jackpot since a $56 million jackpot was won on July 30, 2005.

The winning Lotto numbers for Saturday, June 24, 2006 were 16-20-30-31-35-45, and the Bonus number was 26.

There were no second-prize winners, matching five numbers plus the bonus number, but there were 35 third-prize winners, who matched five numbers for $1,734.00 each.

Also, there were 2,241 fourth-prize winners, matching four numbers for $28.00 each, and there were 57,938 fifth-prize winners, matching three numbers for $1.00 each.

The next New York Lotto drawing is on Wednesday, June 28, 2006.  The jackpot will be $45 million.

That's not a bad jackpot size. I wonder how high it will get.

    That's just fantastic. Wouldn't it be great if it paid 50%? Just imagine, $6 for 3 numbers in NY Lotto. It would be possible with just a 50% payout.

    But back to the jackpot, for the odds you can't do much better. After taxes the cash option would be about $15 million, compare that the the odds of about one 1 in 22 million.
