N.C. lottery announces dates for pick 3, pick 5

N.C. lottery announces dates for pick 3, pick 5

North Carolina Lottery

The state lottery announced this morning the dates for the start of its next two major games — Pick 3 and Pick 5 numbers games.

The Pick 3 game will begin Oct. 6. The Pick 5 game will start Oct. 27.

The games are played similar to the multi-state Powerball game, but with fewer numbers to choose from, better odds and lower prize amounts.

Drawings will be held every day of the week.

Top prize for picking the exact numbers in the Pick 3 game is $500.

Top prize in the Pick 5 game will start at $50,000 and grow until someone wins it.

Let's hope that they are ball drawings, not computerized.

The drawings are indeed going to be ball drawn.

According the invitation to bid, the Cash 5 will be a 5/39. They also specify that the machine have the abilty to draw at least 6 numbers, which means either a bonus ball (like Roadrunner Cash) or that Mr. Sha-heeeen is leaving the possiblity of an in-state pick-6, something NC could easily support.

They also specify that one set for each game be red in color. I have no idea what this could be for. Maybe it's for future "red ball" promos, but then again these red balls are to be numbered so that may put that to rest. One would think this is to leave a plus-1 type game open for the future, but seeing that Pick 3 will also have a few red ball sets that's probably not the case. My guess, the red balls are for test draws.

You only need one ticket to win. But you'll win more with one hundred.

I'm not a pick 3 player. I do think daily is too often for a pick 5 game although most states I've seen start with fewer draws and eventually add more as players get 'hooked' on the game. I prob will not play unless the top prize grows a sizable amount. It's just not in my budget to play a daily game. Hopefully information will show up on the NC website. I could not even find this announcement there.

I think it could be something like the OK lottery ran with it's pick 3 promotion when they had the Orange ball sets to act as a multiplier for the pick3 game when it was drawn.  Or maybe the red balls are going to be a bonus game like you said Jimmy.-weshar75
