I find this thread informative because, although I haven't been buying scratch tickets lately, I will keep this in mind. It never hurts to be extra sure before tossing any ticket. I usually keep all tickets in a shoe box anyway for a while. There can always be misprints. I agree with Todd. Scratch tickets should be as easy to figure out as the raffle tickets. Your number matches or it doesn't.
One night I was tired and ready for bed, but wanted to check my Lotto tickets. I saw 3 numbers and checked both the FL site and LP. I actually had 4, but who knows how out of focus my vision was at 3 in the morning and what planet my brain was visiting? I would have claimed it anyway for the $5 bucks, but $75 was a lot nicer. I realized I had 4 numbers when I got online the next day. So if someone like me, an obsessive, long time lottery "addict" who checks and double checks her numbers can make a mistake at a glance, it makes sense that people who rarely play might miss a winner.
Once in a thread about jackpot games, RJOh wrote that people buy PB and MM tickets not realizing that they can win a lot with lower tier prizes. I agree. I bet people throw their tickets out when they hear "nobody won Sat night." They just as easily might toss a scratch ticket into the trash.
