Police Looking for Cross-Dressing Lottery Ticket Thief

Feb. 13, 2007, 10:00 a.m.

New York Lottery New York Lottery: Police Looking for Cross-Dressing Lottery Ticket Thief

Police are following the trail of a cross-dressing thief who stole a display case full of lottery tickets from a convenience store in Depew, New York, and was caught in the act on camera.

The unusual robbery happened at a Noco station on George Urban Boulevard in Depew.

Detectives say a man dressed as a woman walked right up to the counter and walked away with a case full of lottery tickets, $2,000 worth, but what's even more shocking is what happened next.

The video shows it clearly.

The female store clerk actually tried to stop the robber, believing that it was a woman.

Depew Police Lieutenant Stan Carwile said, "It was just a reaction. She walked out, she sees this person grabbing something, and takes off from the store."

But the man was able to get away.

Carwile said, "He actually said that he was a man, not to fight with him, and he then left the store."

But it's not the last of this bold criminal's acts.

Authorities say that he went on to three other convenience stores, and he even tried cashing in winning lottery tickets.

Carwile said, "They did cancel the tickets, but we wanted to see if he would cash them in, to get a photo, and luckily, he did."

Now, authorities are looking to do a police line-up with several possible suspects.

They believe that this man has struck before, and that he's bold enough to keep doing it, and may dress up as a woman once again.

Carwile said, "I don't know whether or not he did that typically, or just did that to conceal his identity, which isn't odd at all."

He's described as a white male, 5' 9" to 6 feet tall, in his early 20s.

I could not agree with you more. Some people are just too damn lazy to earn money the old fashioned way -- work for it!

the comment of "work for your money struck a cord". I definitely want to WIN the Lottery and I have no problems knowing I didnt work for all those millions if I won it. Sure would work on spending it though :)

This guy just placed a new spin on how he chose to get free money. Not agreein with robbery but then again doubt I agree that the fashion clothes chosen brought out the best in him.

One day your life will flash before your eyes, make sure its one worth watching.

I Agree!

I've worked hard most of my life. Being a thief and wanting to win the lottery are 2 entirely different things. I honestly wouldn't mind retiring now.  The couple who won 1/2 of the $42M jackpot in FL (the one where we were discussing the lucky store clerk) said they will never work again, if the press is quoting them correctly. They're only 26.  I'm more than twice their age.  I hope I would do more than hang around the beach, and be very philanthropic with my time and money, but I wouldn't feel guilty about winning a lot of money either.
