New Mexico has sold its fourth multi-million dollar winning Powerball jackpot ticket.

One winning ticket was sold in New Mexico for tonight's Powerball lottery drawing, according to the New Mexico Lottery Authority. It was the only winning ticket nationwide.

The winning numbers drawn were 3, 11, 24, 36, 38, and the red Powerball was 6.

The prize carries a pre-tax estimated annuitized jackpot of $63 million, and a pre-tax cash value of approximately $29.5 million. The New Mexico winner can declare a cash or annuity option at the time the claim is filed.

Lottery officials said that the winning ticket should be signed immediately, since it is a bearer instrument.

Also, the New Mexico Lottery recommends that the winner or winners meet with an attorney and/or financial advisor immediately before coming to Lottery headquarters.

The winner is advised to call the Lottery security division, provide basic identifying information about the ticket and its purchase, and make an appointment to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters in Albuquerque, or present the winning ticket and discuss various options prior to filing the claim.

Since Powerball was launched in the state in October 1996, the New Mexico Lottery has had three multi-million jackpots before last night.

  • On Nov. 30, 2000, a group of 14 Sandia National Laboratory employees claimed a $131 million Powerball jackpot.
  • On Feb. 22, 2002, Isabell Delgado of Las Cruces claimed a Powerball jackpot of $32 million.
  • On Aug. 19, 2005, John San Cartier, an airman from Kirtland Air Force Base, claimed a Powerball prize of $93.4 million.

Information about the individual retailer and/or the community where the ticket was sold may not be released until the winner has been verified and the prize claimed. The winning retailer is eligible to receive $50,000 for selling the winning jackpot.

The New Mexico Lottery has raised more than $312 million for public education and more than 43,000 students have received their in-state college tuition paid by the Legislative Lottery Scholarship.

Realistically, although the winner is clearly blessed to have won at all, he or she likely walked away with less than half of the advertised 63 million. I would estimate the received around 20 give or take, not that that's pocket change. To walk away with 63 million, the actually jackpot would likely have to be over 100 mil, which rarely seems to happen anymore.

There isn't a lottery player alive who wouldn''t be thrilled to land the $15 million dollar minimum jackpot - and would consider it a great return on a $1 ticket.  Only there is a bunch of 'players' who will never win that, simply because they don't 'tune in and turn on' until the jackpot is well north of, say, $150 million.  Their loss.

My first thought too.

Maybe he bought it on his way to a  prospecting excursion.

He hit paydirt if it is him.

Rooooootin for ya Jack.

Prospecting excursion, you say?  Was Jack a prospector?  What kind, do you know?  Hmm, no wonder I quite liked him.  Didn't agree with his political ideas though.  I don't see him posting anymore.

Has anyone claimed this yet?  I used to live in NM and know quite a few people there.  Would be really cool to see someone I know claim this.
