Georgia Lottery sets sales record with $3.4 billion sales
Georgia Lottery: Georgia Lottery sets sales record with $3.4 billion sales
The Georgia lottery took in a record $3.4 billion dollars during the last fiscal year — a $244 million jump from the previous year. Officials say more than $850 million was transferred to the education fund, which pays for HOPE scholarships and pre-kindergarten classes. That brings the total funds raised to nine-point-three billion since the lottery began in 1993. State officials were concerned a few years ago that lottery sales wouldn't meet the growing demand for pre-kindergarten classes and the HOPE scholarships, which pay the in-state tuition to students who maintain a "B" average. Since then, sales have continued to climb and the scholarship has posted a growing surplus. Governor Perdue has pushed lawmakers to approve a constitutional amendment that limits how lottery funds can be used. It is aimed at preventing the General Assembly from allocating some of the money for local projects. The Georgia Lottery conducts its daily drawings using real, traditional lottery drawing equipment, not computerized drawings.

way to go georgia. you dont see this everyday a state that actually lets the people know how much of the lottery sales is going to the schools.to bad we dont see more of this.this story should have been on all the major news networks as an example of what can happen for education and school children when the money is used properly.just the other day in chicago, illinois i saw that the schools was asking the mayor for 300 million to keep some of the programs going.its just sad that the school board has to ask for that amount of money and wait for an answer, but the olympics is guaranteed 500 million in taxpayer money if and when all of the construction goes over budget.i shouldnt even say if it goes over budget i should just say when, because every city that has hosted the olympics has always gone way over there budget plan.

Just wondering, what is the most money you have ever had on a # and it came in? I know a lady about 10 years ago hit for a total of over $65,000 in a three month period in mi. She hit on one 4 digit for $17,500. It was pretty amazing to see, every time we talked she had more winners. She did share some of her # with me which did pay off to the tune of $1500.00. The most i have ever won personally is $3000.00 on the trip eights, the best part was they came back about 2 or 3 weeks later for $2500.00 more. Just wondering.

Let's see, in Georgia I've won $50 on $1 tickets on two seperate occasions, and $100 on a $2 ticket on my most recent trip. There's no doubt I have luck here. But luck or not, from what I've seen, Margaret DiFrancisco has done a very good job with running the Georgia Lottery, with the possible exception of the graphic design dep't, picking up where Rebecca Paul left off and lifting it even higher.

I agree JimmySand9, with one more exception- I wish they would drop the win for life game and bring back Ga lottery or the old lotto south....

I agree, DoubleDown. They should bring back Lotto South or Lotto Georgia.

i helped contribute to that record by buying a few raffle tickets and some future megamillions plays. georgia is doing just fine without rebecca paul running things so i dont know why she wants to make tennessee computerized when georgia is so successful without it.

When did they do away with Lotto South? I moved to GA in 1995 for part of high school and I believe they still had it then. It was multistate right?

Lotto South (multi-state) replaced Lotto Georgia in 2001 and was cancelled in February 2006.
