A White City, Oregon, woman must turn over her lottery winnings after a judge said she won them illegally.

Prosecutors said Christina Goodenow, of White City, used a credit card that belonged to her then-boyfriend's dead mother to buy a winning $1 million Scratch-It ticket in Oct. 2005.

Goodenow asked lottery officials to keep her win quiet, claiming to be a victim of domestic violence. But police learned of the crime about two weeks later, as Goodenow continued to use the stolen credit card.

On Thursday, Jackson County Judge Ray White ruled that the winnings were the proceeds of illegal activity and must be forfeited under Oregon law.

Goodenow pleaded no contest to forgery, cheating and aggravated theft.

Besides stripping Goodenow of her winnings, White sentenced Goodenow to a month in jail. But White gave her credit for the six months she served earlier this year for possessing methamphetamine.

Goodenow, who maintains she bought the winning ticket with cash from her own pocket and said she plans to appeal, must spend two years on probation.

If she just would have spent her pocket change on the tickets instead this would not have been an issue.

Instead she is now named and shamed in the media. And prosecuted and jailed. If she used the card in the shop she bought the tickets she got no case.

LOL !  Since she was on possession of meth, she's probably a drug addict also, so she never would have been able to manage to hang onto whatever was left after taxes anyway.

And what's with the retailer allowing a credit card to be used for lottery tickets?  I thought that was pretty much illegal in all states.

This  case  should  go  all  the  way  to  the  Supream Court ;

The  judges  Ruling Over-steped  his  Jurisdiction ;True  the  woman  stole  a  credit  card  that  was  illegal  and  she  should  pay  for  her  decession  but  to  strip  her  of  the  money  was  Impropper  and  beyound  the  scope  of  justice ;

returnig  the  money  to  the  credit  card  and  a  jail  sentence  but  not  a  lottery-ticket  because  it  would  have left  a  trial  of  reciepts  , which  in  this  case  there  was  only  a  ticket  ...which  won  a  million  and  this  individual  was  robed  of  her  winnings;Smash

Computerhead- Please go back and re-read the article in its entirety. You are missing some important legal infractions that played a MAJOR part in this judges ruling.

Let me put it to you in kindergarden terms: Johnny stole money from his sisters' piggy bank. Johnny goes and buys lots of candy with it. Momma comes home and finds that Johnny broke into his sisters piggybank. Momma says Bad Deed Johnny, for that you are grounded and have to give all the candy back .

One day your life will flash before your eyes, make sure its one worth watching.
