Here is the story of the Powerball website:

PHOENIX (Jan. 29, 2007) — When the Jan. 20 Powerball jackpot climbed to $205 million, Barry Salzman, Henderson, NV, did as he usually does – crossed the border to purchase a ticket at Boulder Inn (also known as “Rosie's Den”), a little café on state Highway 93, 55 miles from Las Vegas.

Salzman didn't win the jackpot, but he did win $10,000 by matching four numbers plus the Powerball. The bad weather put a crimp in his plans to redeem their ticket on Monday, Jan. 22, instead, he and his wife came to Phoenix on Friday, Jan. 26. As they say, timing is everything. When he came to the Lottery's office at 4740 E. University Dr. to collect his $10,000 prize, he bought another Powerball ticket. This time it turned out to be a $15 million jackpot winner. So, they were right back in Phoenix yesterday.

Blah Blah Blah..............................

Wow!  Great story!

after sales, what do you think the actual amount would be?

Does anyone know if it's possible to split the payout methods?  For instance, with one winning ticket, can you take half the jackpot as an annuity and the other half in a lump sum?  I thought I heard about this being done before.  But it was two people who played together and split their winnings in this manner.  I guess I'm asking can this be done for one person?

You could buy your own annuity. Take the lump sum and purchase an annuity of your own choosing.

This might be one of those times that a lawyer would come in handy. The lawyer could go over the lottery rules with a fine tooth comb and find out whether or not this is possible.I have read where people in a lottery pool took different payouts and the lottery said they would "bend over backwards" to help lottery winners.

thanks rubberbandman !

But I think I should rephrase my question.  Usually, after "record" sales on a large jackpot, the actual jackpot amount is larger than the advertised amount.   I was wondering what some of you think it might jump to, if at all.
