Councilor seeks city-only lottery game
Massachusetts Lottery: Councilor seeks city-only lottery game
In the city of Worcester, Massachusetts, a council member is suggesting that the city launch its own lottery game to raise money for cash-strapped public schools. District 1 Councilor Joffrey Smith is asking the city manager to file special legislation that would authorize the State Lottery Commission to create scratch ticket game that would be sold only in Worcester. Smith says proceeds from the game would do directly to public schools in the state's second-largest city. Smith says he has not yet spoken with state lottery officials but plans to discuss his idea with members of the city's legislative delegation and Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray, a former Worcester mayor. No other state lottery game directs proceeds directly to a single municipality.

Nebraska has a state lottery commission and offers regular lottery and scratchoff games but cities in the state with over a certain population can and do offer video Keno games with proceeds going directly to that city. Blessed Saint Leibowitz, keep 'em dreamin' down there.....
Next week's convention for Psychics and Prognosticators has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

"No other state lottery game directs proceeds directly to a single municipality."
If it's a game that's only sold in one city it wouldn't really be a state lottery game would it? Of course if the state lottery commission has to be involved I expect they'll see something out of the deal. There's also the matter of how the state will view a game that would be competing with the real state games.

If the state lottery did create a special scratch-off game just for the city of Worcester to fund their schools, all the other Massachusetts cities would want one too. The state lottery could do that or just continue to fund all the city schools from lottery proceeds.
Next week the city of Salem will ask the lottery for a "Salem only" raffle.

The citizens would be better served by getting rid of the public schools. Prince of Insufficient Light ~ Ruler of Heck

The state is incapable of criminal behavior; Julius Caesar was killed in a random walk-by knifing.

What is wrong with their public schools? Read the stats. Children in public schools, which is the same as saying they are taught by union workers, have had to to lower their standard to pass the No Child Left Behind laws. Public school graduates are given diplomas whether they deserve it or not. Every seen a union worker brag about quality being their primary concern? Never! Quantity and self preservation is the only purpose of a union. Failing a stdent reflects on the school and the school is associates with teacher. Thus they won't fail them. They would rather force them to watch an Al Gore propaganda movie, with questions of validity forbidden, then spend time teaching them how to write a check or complete a jon application. Watch a teenager give change in the drive by window, and you will see how useless the public school system is.
I spent all my education in private schools, until the 1th grade. Then dad ranout of extra money and the Catholics threw me out. Money was more important to them. I wound up in a public school and found out I had been taught almost everything I needed for graduation. I had to take some basic math and english and coast through two grades. Those in public schools were two years behind me and I was far from an honor student!
I refused to send my daughter to a public school. She went to a private school for her whole life. I was not about to spend my money for nothing while encouraging being a loser. She graduated from college with honors, with zero help from me financially. She forced to participate in the learning process and gained from it. You aren't force to do anything in a public school! It is all about priorities, She know has a priority to ensure her children get the best of what America offers, not what some union crud is willing to pass out.
