GamerMom: Actually the Lotto Plus feature is the smartest thing the Florida lottery has done (aside from joining PB). When I finally got a trip down to Florida, the first thing I did was to purchase an advance play $3 ticket. Perhaps you didn't know that the Canadian lottery tickets are $3, but that is only for the base prize. So I would much rather spend $3 to win the base prize plus an extra $25 milliion. BTW what do you see all the winners who only bought a $1 ticket say when they claim their prize now that the Lotto Plus feature is in play..."next time I will buy the $3 ticket!!! So perhaps you are only speaking for yourself. Fair enough. But I know that if the stars align for me to win the Florida jackpot, I want to win as much money as I possibly can, and the Lotto Plus feature gives me that opportunity...that is all, just the opportunity to win more money. And no one can get mad about that. And in the meantime, when the draws don't match my numbers, I can feel satisfied that I have contributed to the education of Floridian children. But then again, I can see that many of the die hard Florida lottery players are actually retirees or transplants to Florida who currently don't have children in Florida public schools, so I guess they just don't care about that...only themselves and how much they have in the bank to go golfing, cruising, tanning, etc. How selfish. The big Canadian lotteries are $2, not $3.

Well there goes the Florida in state game!
There are 29 other states to buy Powerball in so while the sales might spike in Florida for several months(or years) they will calm back down when everyone realizes that they aren't winning and nobody around them is winning and the jackpots are fewer and farther between in Florida.
PowerBall and MegaMillion are really just Jackpot vampires sucking up all the decent size jackpots that you or people around you have a chance of winning and substituting that with bigger jackpots that nobody except people in certain areas ever seem to win.
If people don't have the disposable income to buy in state games then why do they believe that they can afford powerball more than the other offerings?
I will go out on a limb and say this decision eventually wont work as well as they hope.

I smell a matrix change; probably bigger than Mega Millions. Hopefully this will result in a bigger minimum jackpot. $20M perhaps. Gonna win.

Isn't there supposed to be a change this fall? In November or something? I thought I read something about that here a couple months ago. With odds like 1 in 175,711,536 how can I lose?!

I really hope there isn't another matrix change. The game is hard enough as it is. "No one remembers the person who almost climbed the mountain, only the person who eventually gets to the top."

Florida continues to deteriorate. Couple of years ago I was proud Florida
had resisted going to two draws a day for Pick-3/4 and had a lotto strong
enough we didn't have to share with other states. Plus we had a web
site with real information and help.
The best thing about Bush having been governor is we were inoculated against him ever being president.
Crist wants to bail and be vp, easier then keeping his promises.
Powerball will damage our 6/53 which never should have been changed
from 6/49. These lottery directors certainly don't work for us. The claim
people polled wanted bigger prizes doesn't answer whether they also
asked for tougher odds.
Powerball is just a bloated Pick-5 game, helps to look at it that way.
Play it as a Pick-5 and rotate the longest out Powerballs among your
tickets.

I really hope there isn't another matrix change. The game is hard enough as it is. There are those who think if games like MM and PB don't generate a $200M jackpot every other month or so they are too easy to win and won't play them. It never made sense to me but I've even read some post here where people say they won't buy a ticket until the jackpot is over $100M, I guess they don't want to chance wasting a dollar on winning anything less than $100M. * What happens most *
* will most likely happen again *

I e-mailed the people at MUSL about it a couple of weeks ago, and they said that there were no plans. Of course that was before Florida came into the picture. I emailed MUSL yesterday after reading about Florida joining MUSL and the drawings being held in Florida. I asked them if the drawings will be "live" or if they were going to change to RNG drawings.I also asked them if they had plans to change the matrix, which would make the game harder to win. Here is their answer:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The drawing will be live. The drawing will still use a hard rubber ball
draw machine - though we anticipate getting new machines.
This does offer an opportunity to improve the game. We don't generally
just like changes "to make it even harder to win". We are kicking
around ideas to see what we can do to make the game and the drawings
more attractive to players. We'll see what we can do. "
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They didn't say if the drawings would be televised.

I do wonder, though, why they will be moving the powerball drawing from Iowa to Florida. Are there going to be other changes to Powerball that they haven't told us about, yet? Are the drawings still going to be televised "live"? I would say is was a INCENTIVE to get Florida to join..I would even go as far as to say that FLORIDA ACTUALLY INSISTED that if they joined Powerball that the live drawings be held in their state as part of the deal for them to join..that would be my bet..ALABAMA is going to lose even more money now..because Alabamians can play mega millions or powerball on 3 sides of their state "Attention all Mathematicians: Check your degree at the door because when it comes to whole numbers you are the Amateur"

So now Florida makes number 30 (not counting territories) to Mega Millions' 12. Granted Mega Millions has some of the more populated states but that's still pretty lopsided. With odds like 1 in 175,711,536 how can I lose?!

BobP. I agree completely. Give Florida 6 months and they will have every powerball player in the country at their throat.

I am surprised a big state like Florida joined Powerball and not Mega Millions since that seems to be the way it goes. Big states MM smaller states PB. Florida is a huge lottery state. I can't see them not raising the odds. Maybe they will raise the price to $2. I wish both games would do that already and just lower the odds a little. Then it would be an interesting game one that seems to be at least a little attainable to win.
