The economy is having its impact on the sale of Kansas Lottery tickets, according to lottery officials.

Lottery Executive Director Ed Van Petten said Wednesday that ticket sales between July 1 and last Saturday are down 4% over the same period of time last year.

Van Petten said the economy has been a factor, but that isn't the only reason for slumping sales. He said ticket sales have been down in the games with large jackpots because the jackpots haven't been that much in recent months.

Another problem, he said, is that some 50 retailers selling Lottery tickets have gone out of business, largely because of the economy.

He said he expects the sales will go back up later this fall and throughout the holiday season.

Yes, everyone likes a huge jackpot.  I personally feel the economy will pick itself back up if the oil boys will leave us alone and keep the prices down.  At no time, did I ever blame the banking crisis on this economy blow.  It was all just a dominoe effect from the gas prices that became unbearable for far too long.  The greedy gut oil boys didn't care they have crippled their own nation.

    It was the banks and their sub prime mortgages that ruined the economy but yes, the oil boys were to blame as well.

     

    What's the betting their be a big winner in Kansas shortly? ;)

        Energy prices certainly have an effect on the economy, but the current problems are clearly the result of bad decisions by the investment industry. For the most part,  the only post-Enron energy investment decisions that have been bad have been when people sold too soon or bought a gas guzzler.
