Around the United States, lottery jackpots are continuing to grow larger, making the allure of picking up a couple extra lottery tickets ever-stronger.

Leading the pack is the California SuperLotto Plus jackpot, which rolled to $76 million last night when no ticket won Wednesday night's $70 million top prize.

The jackpots of both multi-state lotteries have rolled over again this week also, with grand prizes of $65 million for Powerball and $60 million for Mega Millions.

Because Mega Millions is played in California, two of the three largest jackpots worldwide are available for residents of that state to play.

Mega Millions is played in a total of twelve states: California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.  Powerball is played in every other state that has a lottery, plus Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Other big USA jackpots this week include Lotto Texas ($16 million), New York Lotto ($13 million), and Ohio Classic Lotto ($12.7 million).

All of the largest jackpots will be drawn on Saturday, with the exception of Mega Millions, which is drawn on Friday.

Around the world, only the multi-country Euro Millions game has a similarly-large jackpot, with a top prize of €15 Million (US$19.2 Million) that will be drawn on Friday.

Super Lotto Plus has been growing for several months. I think it is teasing me because I often feel the anxiety when lottery jackpots keep rolling over for a long time, especially when they are going over $100 millions.

I wish I could take it home.

I remember when $60 million jackpots would have people standing in long lines to buy tickets.

Now they act like $60 million is nothing.

Why drive to California to participate in the largest jackpot when there's not much difference in the cash value of the top three?  Almost every state has one of the top three games.

California Supper Lotto Plus $76M - cash $46.5M
MegaMillions $60M - cash $39.3M
PowerBall $65M - cash $35.3M

 * will most likely happen again *

That was because the people standing in lines were from out of state.  Now almost every state has a local lottery and one of the multi-state lottery games.  Before MegaMillions came to Ohio, I and friends would travel over the border to play BigGame in Michigan and PowerBall in Indiana when their jackpots got close to $100M.

It doesn't buy quite as much bread and milk as it used to. Wink
Although, given what is put in milk these days, I'll just stick with bread. Leaving

Modern "education" teaches a version of history so fictionalized, it should be followed by "TM"
They're warning me about Osama or whatever. Picture me buying the scam; I say "never!". BS

Think of how the cows feel!  I think sticking with bread is a safe bet, but it depends on the spread. Jester

Back to the OP, I think temptation has a lot to do with it - basing this on my own experience.  You see all the ads, the hype, the lines and think "Why not me?" I said I'd never buy PB tickets, yet I've gotten 1 or 2 every week.   When I get to the market or gas station to buy my FL Lotto tickets, I see the PB cards and think "What if I could only get 5 white balls?"  Then I take out $2 bucks.  The guaranteed million is a big incentive to spend that extra buck.  Reason tells me not to plan on winning, but then emotion takes over since there aren't any jobs in Lee County.  Local news this morning reported unemployment passed the 10% mark in December.

I Agree!   but we had to drive to CA and on my way back we stopped at Arizona and New Mexico...Yah we went out of our way to buy PB tickets.  I want to break the record of getting all the big jackpot....its a mission I have been working on for so long and I finally got a chance to drive to CA.  It wasn't that bad We truly enjoyed it I had my son with me.

Picture this:  all the big jackpots put together ofcourse before taxes:$201M.  Am I being too greedy or what?

All for fun when I can.
