Greater-than-expected sales prompt rare mid-week jackpot increase
The rush to buy tickets for a chance at Wednesday's $245 million Powerball jackpot has pushed the prize to $250 million.
The cash option is an estimated $124.8 million.
The current jackpot run-up began July 1 and has grown to $250 million through 14 consecutive drawings.
To play Powerball, players choose five numbers from 1 to 59 and one Powerball number from 1 to 39. Players can also ask for a "quick pick," a set of numbers chosen by the lottery's gaming system.
Each wager costs $1. Players can purchase wagers for 10 advance drawings in a row.
New Mexico Lottery CEO Tom Romero said the buzz about this exciting jackpot may tempt people to spend more than they should.
"Have fun, but more importantly, play responsibly," Romero said. "People should play within their means."
In addition to the jackpot, there are eight prize levels ranging between $3 and $200,000.
An option called Power Play will multiply a $200,000 Powerball prize into $1 million automatically. Other non-jackpot prizes will be multiplied between two and five times depending on the Power Play number drawn.
Power Play costs an additional $1 per play per drawing.
Powerball drawings take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays and the winning numbers are published within minutes of the drawing at www.usamega.com.
Players can also check the Powerball lottery results by clicking their state on the interactive map on Lottery Post's Worldwide Lottery Results page (www.lotterypost.com/results).

I have a sneaking suspicion someone is going to hit it tomorrow. Just hope they know how to handle it and not end up another David Edwards
i will be livid if the winner goes..oh this was my first time playing the lottery

David Edwards was going the wrong way before he won the lottery.
You can buy alot of expensive things if you set limits for yourself !
I am disabled and I have been planning for a number of years !
I am now facing possible cancer and could use some good news !

That is a massive amount of money,I hope who ever wins uses it wisely,If it is me I would give some to shriners hospital for children and of course give some to my family,other than that I would be stunned and live out my life a little better now and never have to worry about money again.Good luck everyone

People I have 5 lucky pick for the powerball. I regret that I cant play it since I don't live in a state that participate in the powerball. Its up to ya, but something tells me to post here and maybe someone could be the next big jackpot winner. Here it is people.......

When the Powerball gets this high......I don't mind sharing with 5 other ticket holders!!! That's a lot of money to go to one or two person(s)/state.
Folks only need a million or two to sang that song....if they wanna. Ya'll know the song,"Take this job .....
and give it to someone else". 
That would cut down on a lot of that foolish spending.......who am I kidding!
