Maryland Lottery: Record Maryland Lottery Multi-Match jackpot won
There was one big winner in Saturday night's Multi-Match drawing from the Maryland Lottery, ending the months-long jackpot-roll that grew to a record-breaking $4.8 million top prize.
The winner, yet to be identified, purchased the ticket at Pop's Tavern in Sparrows Point during a busy Friday sales day. The player utilized the Quick-Pick option, which automatically generates randomly-chosen numbers.
Debbie Hurd, part-owner of Pop's Tavern, was working when the winning ticket was purchased. Hurd isn't sure who the winner is but is excited that it was sold at her store.
"They were buying that ticket all day-long on Friday," Hurd said. "I tell my customers they have much better odds of winning on Multi-Match than on Mega Millions."
Pop's Tavern is located 4343 North Point Boulevard in Sparrows Point, MD.
As suggested by its name, there are multiple ways to win with Multi-Match. Players can win by matching 3, 4 or 5 numbers on any one line, or by matching 5 to 18 numbers on all three lines combined.
To win the jackpot, players must match all six numbers on one line.
The Multi-Match jackpot starts at $500,000 and rises ("rolls over") every time the top prize isn't won.
Prior to this record-breaking roll, the largest Multi-Match jackpot payout was $3 million, which was won by a Glen Burnie woman in November 2008.
Multi-Match drawings are held Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11:22 pm. The winning numbers are published on Lottery Post's Maryland Lottery Results page (www.lotterypost.com/results/md) within minutes of the drawing.
