The US Treasury Department and Federal Reserve Board delayed for six months on Friday the enforcement of new rules designed to crack down on Internet gambling.
In a joint statement, the Treasury Department and Federal Reserve said US financial institutions were being given until June 1, 2010 to be in compliance with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
The act, which would ban US banks, credit card and financial companies from handling unlawful Internet gambling bets, had been scheduled to take effect on December 1.
Passed by the then-Republican controlled US Congress in 2006, the act has been the target of criticism from financial institutions and others that it would be an enforcement nightmare.
It prohibits financial institutions from knowingly accepting payments for online gambling made through credit cards, electronic funds transfers, and checks.
It was aimed at putting teeth into a de facto ban on US residents placing online wagers in locations such as Britain, Canada, Antigua and Gibraltar.
The US ban on Internet gambling has been challenged as an unfair trade restriction at the World Trade Organization and a US congressman is seeking to overturn the 2006 act with legislation that would allow online gambling.
Thanks to emilyg for the tip.
Hope they move on it quickly for those who want to play online. Sooner the better for Lottomike.
I think I am going to play 210 and 303 today. If you wanna win just play the same numbers.
I know quite a bit about programming and computers. I have been using computers for 30 years. It is very easy for online "casinos" to cheat their players. All they have to do is rig the gaming programs to let the casino or their own players win. Anyone who plays online has no clue just how easy it is to get ripped off. It is impossible to police online gaming because the "casino" server can be located anywhere in the world. It is impossible to ensure the game is honest because none of the outside players can inspect the programming code. Even if you could inspect the programming code, and there are thousands of lines, the casino owners could simply reload rigged code afterwards.
I agree that online gaming must be banned. It is just too easy to get ripped off. If you want to gamble, either play the lotto or go in person to a casino.
This just angers me! The Congress can't seem to figure out how to tax internet gaming, so they ban it. It does not matter if the citizen want to gamble online or not. It should be our option! I have in the past played pick 3 and pick 4 over the internet but no longer do so but it really makes me angry that we don't have the options. I think I will send a note to my congressman. Thank for posting this Todd.
I really think it should be a personal decision.
If people want to gamble online...... let them. Maybe when they lose enough money they will realize that the software that is written for online casinos is DESIGNED to take their money. You would get a more fair game at a brick and mortar joint.
what a bunch of horse<snip>, govt trying to control car industry, health, now gaming, whats next lol.
It's still not clear whether Pick 3 and Pick 4 will be available to play online when the law is passed. By the way, I never stopped playing pick 3 or 4 online. Always get paid and always did before. So this doesn't phase me one way or another. Except they will be stepping their feet on my money.
I think they are delaying the crackdown because the law is about to be overturned..next month when they vote on it, it is going to pass...to many people want to gamble..and there are to many places that like to have gambling online to make money..as soon as they pass that law I am opening my account at Betslips again!!!!
It should be a personal decision.
just found this site from my relative. new to this. did not know of law or that you could gamble online. cool
So am I! I have no desire to bet on casino games online, I just want to have access bet on Pick 3 and Pick 4 games.
I like $0.25 per combo bet for pick 3/4. It's nice, giving us more run for our money. They will allow it, it just takes a bit of time...
It is save for online gambling..?? they are asking my driver licence and my credit card
