Winner can't stay anonymous by Todd Northrop HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. — When it was announced at Lottery Post Sunday that the winning Powerball ticket was sold at the Uptown Book Store, few people outside of Highland Park, Michigan, knew that location was actually a porn shop, specializing in adult books, pornographic movies and sex toys. Perhaps the winner is right now figuring out how to deal with the potentially sticky situation of claiming the winning ticket that he or she bought in the porn shop. Complicating matters for the ticket-holder, under Michigan state rules, winners cannot remain anonymous when they claim their win. On the positive side of things, it is possible that the ticket buyer purchased the winning ticket at the building's street-side window on Woodward Avenue. [Editor note: Tip to winner — definitely say that you used the side window.] The porn shop may even see an elevation in sales, as area residents say the ticket sale will make the shop more attractive for their future lottery purchases. At the very least, it may provide a good excuse for some to visit the shop. "Maybe it's a lucky spot," one resident said. Detroit resident and lottery regular Dwayne Vale visited the store Sunday afternoon (supposedly for the first time), with the sole purpose of buying a ticket. "I want to see if I can get lucky — you never know."

Let's see now. $128 million dollars and all I have to say is I bought the ticket at a porn shop. Where do I sign up? Even my wife would overlook the porn shop were I to claim such wealth. In fact, she might even send me back there on a daily basis. Now if she were to hand me a check for several million dollars and told me she bought the ticket at a porn shop....well.... that would be a whole different horse of a plucked chicken. Oh, it appears the state's public transportation buses have an official stop here. I wonder if the public transportation administration will begin receiving calls about this odd, possibly unsafe place to have a highly tax payer subsidized bus stop. Anyhow, guess that makes it convenient for a departing bus passenger to walk five feet forward along the sidewalk to purchase a lottery ticket at the Uptown Book Store's street-side, walk-up window that has "LOTTERY" printed on it at high traffic Woodward Avenue. 
Having millions of dollars in my financial accounts means more, consistent fun for me.

The winner could be waiting for the bus and ran in quickly to perchase lotto tickets. It happens to me all the time when I'm waiting for a bus, you see the lotto and you just go in unaware of what type of store it is.

Yeah, but the workes have a job and can feed their families. What are you so tie up about!! Also, it really looks very discret, leave the people alone, they have a job to do and it seems you want to take it away from them.

I would walk in with my head held high and cash in my ticket. When asked what I was doing at the porn shop I would look the person in the eye and say the same thing YOU were doing there. Minding my own business and staying out of yours!! Besides, I'm a grown person doing grown folks stuff. Everybody on this planet knows that SEX SELLS...... Now we ALL know that SEX SELLS winning tickets. Now I plan on hitting every T & A shop I know to see if they sell lottery tickets. Maybe the lottery fairy will make me a jackpot winner if I purchase my winning ticket at the T & A shop. It will make one HECK of an interview. Believe It!! <Naurto> | | |
