S.C. Lottery to pay 2 sets of winning numbers after mistake

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina lottery will pay for two separate sets of winning numbers for a Tuesday Pick 3 drawing after a graphic mistakenly listed the wrong numbers.

Lottery officials said in a news release that the numbers 2-2-6 were picked for Tuesday's midday Pick 3 game. But a graphic listing the winning numbers before the evening drawing had the numbers as 2-2-1.

Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea says the lottery tries to be as transparent as possible and honors its mistakes.

Officials say players with 2-2-6 tickets can be claimed at stores, but players with 2-2-1 tickets will need to mail them in or take them to the lottery's claim center in Columbia.

A similar mistake led the lottery to pay for two sets of winning numbers 2005 and 2010.

Lottery Post's South Carolina Pick 3 Midday Drawing History page displays both winning numbers for the Tues., Feb. 15, 2011 drawing.

That's good. Those people who play 221 were already happy, so it would not be fair if the lottery didn't pay.

They posted the "Winning" number too early, that is before the drawing.

Lotteries have been known to do that sometimes, but not very often, maybe that is why so many lotteries take so very long before they post their winning numbers, perhaps they avoid mistakes in this way.

Thu, Feb 17, 2011    5-2-5
Wed, Feb 16, 2011    3-8-1
Tue, Feb 15, 2011    2-2-6
Tue, Feb 15, 2011    2-2-1
Mon, Feb 14, 2011    4-1-6

To make things worse they chose two numbers with double twos 22X

That is just too much perhaps.

But as we all know, people always have "logical"explanations for this kind of thing.

Not sure I understand.... if a person really believes they are trying to cheat players, why would such person even play?
