The Oregon Lottery today held the state's sixth raffle drawing — the third it has held on St. Patrick's Day.

The appropriately-named St. Patrick's Day Raffle resulted in one new millionaire and over one thousand other prize winners.

A complete list of winning numbers for the drawing can be found at Lottery Post's Oregon Lottery Results page (www.lotterypost.com/results/or).

The game has a total of 1,011 cash prizes, with a top prize of $1 million cash.

Raffle tickets went on sale earlier this year, and cost $10 each. The complete inventory of 250,000 tickets was sold out prior to the drawing.

All $100 prizes can be paid at any Lottery retail location, but the $20,000 prizes and the $1 million grand prize must be collected at the Lottery office at 500 Airport Road SE in Salem during regular business hours or by mail (registered mail recommended).

Winners have one year from March 17, 2011 to claim their prize.

The limited number of tickets available gave players better odds than traditional lottery games such as Megabucks and Powerball. And unlike those games, the raffle guaranteed there would be winners.

Illinois also had a St. Patrick's raffle....against my better judgement, I purchased one of those tickets (I have played like 5 times and never won even $1,000).  I also noted that the RNG picker selected heavily from the beginning and the ending and less so in the latter middle where I purchased my ticket.  So I guess the strategy of waiting up until the final days or the buying at the beginning was the way to go.  In any case, I think I would rather wager $20 on the MegaMillions drawing tonight (that's 20 chances to win $201 million) rather than ever playing another raffle game (even though it is supposedly better odds at winning $1 million...but so far those better odds have not worked out for me).  So I think I will drop $20 on Mega tonight...and hopefully my lucky St. Pats drawers will actually bring me some luck (I declare that I will continue to wear them until I do win the jackpot...so for my sake I hope that is tonight!).

Oh and congrats to all those people living in the city and downstate...enjoy the million, hundo thousand, and grand notes.  And for the love of the lottery, please claim your prize, even if it is just $1,000 right away.  I just cannot understand why anyone would drop $20 on a raffle ticket and never claim their winnings.  Heck if anyone just wants to play without the intent of claiming the prize, just drop me a PM and....no I am not that desperate.  Just having a little cynical fun!

Are the state lottery raffle drawings making a comeback? It seems that the raffles were popular a few years ago when they first emerged. Then, they seemed to decline after many states had trouble selling out all the tickets in a timely manner.

Does anyone know if the state lotteries have started to structure these raffles any differently in order to make them more viable? If so, what have those changes been?

I'd actually like to play a lottery raffle in my state from time to time. I think a couple of raffles per year would be workable.

I can't speak for all the other states but I know Illinois has offered a St. Patrick's Day and Halloween Raffle for several years now.  I did the math of Illinois' raffle and they award 50 percent of the proceeds and the other 50 percent is returned to the players.  So in dollars, they offer 500,000 raffle tickets at $20 a pop which nets a cool $10 million, and $5 million goes to prizes as there are 4 $1 million top prizes, 5 $100,000 prizes, and 500 $1,000 prizes.  So not a bad way to raise $5 million bucks and make people feel like they have a better chance at winning.  I think I will stick to the atronomical odds of me ever winning either MegaMillions or Powerball...at least that is 20 chances I could win either since I have played raffles on at least 5 different occasions and have not won a single dollar...so I have won more in that regard by playing Mega or Powerball.

On the subject of my lucky drawers, I will actually wash them and put them back on for next Tuesday's drawing.  I can't go around smelling like mud butt!!!  And last I checked, there is no competition to see who has the smelliest underwear like they have for sneakers.

Money money money.....M-O-N-E-Y!
