Mega Millions

Typically wins $50K per year, but this time he won $1 million

By Todd Northrop

Joe Vaeth, Jr. is no stranger to Lottery wins.

The 55-year-old has won $50,000 three years in a row playing Pick 4.  He's picked up many additional Lottery prizes along the way and told Lottery officials that friends often want to rub his head and shoulders for good luck.

Sporting a t-shirt emblazoned with a Corvette emblem, Joe also recounted the '65 Corvette that he won in a raffle 15 years ago.  And, in an ironic twist, the feisty winner mentioned that he lives off of Sweepstakes Road.

Wednesday, the lucky player claimed his largest win to date — a $1 million Mega Millions prize.

Joe, who is the owner of Global Comfort Heating & Air Conditioning, stops each morning at the gas station down the street from his home to pick up his Lottery tickets.  Tuesday was no exception as the father-of-two bought his games, which included a Mega Millions Quick Pick play.

The next day, as is his custom, Joe stopped to make his Lottery purchases and check the prior day's tickets.  When the scanner showed "See Lottery Agent" he asked the clerk for a printout of the Mega Millions numbers.

Upon realizing that he was a millionaire, Joe quickly drove home to share the news with his wife.  Roused from sleep, her initial reaction was disbelief, but considering her husband's track record it didn't take long before she was convinced.

To win his $1 million prize, Joes included the Megaplier option when purchasing his Mega Millions ticket.  For $1 extra per ticket, the Megaplier option multiplies non-jackpot prizes by the Megaplier number drawn that same evening.  Or, in the case of a $250,000 second-prize win (like Joe had), the Megaplier automatically multiplies the prize by 4, for a $1 million payout.

Joe insists that his luck is, in large part, due to positive thinking.  In fact, he's certain that he's going to win and remarked on his future good fortune.  "I'm going to be back for the big one," said Joe.  "This is just a teaser.  Mark my words, I'll be back within a year."

Joe plans to invest most of his recent winnings.  He will also pay off his home and bills.  On a more celebratory note, Joe intends to take a trip to Italy with his family.

The winning ticket was purchased at Damascus Liberty, located at 26241 Ridge Rd. in Damascus, Maryland.

only takes 1 ticket to win,  glad to see long time lottery player "i think" who always plays and never gives up

, win time and time again p4 now 5 out 6, , lucky devil with hes track record, who knows that MM/PB jackpot could be hes some day, he just have to battle  the millions of us also trying to hit that 6 out 6

the dodge ball masters that are pb/mm lol

and if your playing to win the jackpot, its better to buy 2 tickets then 1 with mutiplayer, but in hes case, that added buck to cost of 1 made him a cool 750k more then 250k , not bad for a buck addon

if i ever do even get 5 out 6. and only win pb200k or mm 250k, i be like ah it pay off the house and car, so no biggie. thro when asked if i regert it, i be like, will i buyed 2 tickets, what if 2nd ticket was the winner. get my line thinking, i just take more shots. hoping i win something.

ether way congrats to him and may he enjoy it :D

Congratulations big lottery winner, Joe!  I get enthusiastic when I learn of people winning the 1st or 2nd prize on a lottery ticket purchase that was ONLY ONE row of #s. I bet that the people and businesses that you owe outstanding bills to will be thrilled to have been reimbursed; what a relief to everyone those pay-offs will evoke!

Typically, from what I've been reading on this site, the 1st or 2nd prize winner has purchased more than 1 row of #s, or more than one ticket, for a multi-state lottery game.

Anyhow, Joe, be kind to your self and your trusting creditors, in the future, by paying the balance of ALL of your bills FIRST (cash or a debt card would serve this purpose), BEFORE buying future lottery tickets (even if it means not being able to purchase a lottery ticket chance EACH day anymore; it will foster a happy, positive daily family environment in your household).

Am I reading this correctly? Are you basically implying that people who have mortgages/bills should not take a chance at the lottery until they are paid in full?

 What?
