Kentucky Lottery chief financial officer Howard Kline said the payoff to Pick 4 players in November turned out to be far more than was taken in on the game. Greg Harkenrider, one of the state's top budget experts, said Wednesday that revenue from the popular Pick 4 game plummeted in November because more people than expected won prizes. Kentucky Lottery chief financial officer Howard Kline said the payoff to Pick 4 players in November turned out to be far more than was taken in on the game. Roughly half of Pick 4 players typically win prizes, but that changed when the numbers 0000 came up in in the Nov. 21 Pick 4 Evening drawing. Turns out those were not only lucky numbers, but also favorite numbers for Pick 4 players. Kline said the lottery paid out $2.1 million more than expected in prizes for the Pick 4 game that month. they may have paid out 2.1 million more than they expected to, but no way they lost money when they only pay out 50% or 5000 clams for a possible 10,000 combination of numbers. just trying to stimulate sales by misrepresenting their bottom line. maybe that one day they lost money, but not for the month. payout odds too much in their favor.

I am glad that someone is winning some money. I have tried pick4 here in oregon to only lose so I do not play any more. If I am going to lose it will be with the big jackpot games like powerball and mega millions. Good luck to all.-weshar75

Paid out $2.1 Million more for that month in the pick 4 game? That's not too bad. I'm sure everyday since then they've been on the road to making it up and then some.

"Roughly half of Pick 4 players typically win prizes" That statement seems a bit odd. They may pay out half their take in the game but not pay out to half of the players. Just a minimum box win is like $100.00. So you would need 200 losing players to pay just 1 player at a low level box win. Stats hunting:

Just a minimum box win is like $100.00. So you would need 200 losing players to pay just 1 player at a low level box win. Very odd because on some Pick 4 midday drawings the total payoff is less than $10,000. For instance on Wednesday the payoff was $9300 with 43 winners and $9400 on Thursday with 22 winners. It looks like on Wednesday there were two 50 cent straight winners ($2500 each), two $1 box winners ($200 each) and thirty nine 50 cent box winners ($100 each) or a similar combination. It's hard to believe there was only 86 Pick 4 players who would have to wager on average $108 each for the Lottery just to break even. They probably mean the Pick 4 payoffs are roughly half the daily wagers. Another thing that is very odd is when 0000 was drawn, there were 600 players winning $1.5 million. That means all 600 players bought 50 cent tickets doing the math. Am I the only one in KY buying $1 straight Pick 4 tickets?

Maybe every JimBob in the state hammered down on 0000. Could happen. They paid out another $564,000 when a double double (1221) was drawn 4 nights later.

Do they think of the many players that live from pay check to pay check only managing to scrounge a few dollars to take a chance? CONGRATULATIONS to those winners who can pay bills this month!!!!
