ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Last night the Powerball multi-state lottery held its first draw using its new prize structure, and a New Mexico Lottery player has the distinction of winning the first non-multiplied second-prize ticket worth $1 million.
The winning ticket matches the white ball numbers of 6, 29, 34, 44, and 50. The ticket missed the red Powerball of 28 for the night's $80 million jackpot.
This is the nation's first $1 million Powerball prize following Sunday's launch of the game's new format. Previously, the prize for matching five white balls was $200,000.
The New Mexico Lottery recommends that the ticketholder sign the ticket immediately and call New Mexico Lottery security to make arrangements to claim the prize.

Congrats the winner. Now that the jp is 100m I'll try my luck. But instead of spending my usual 5 bux I'll now spend 4 which is just good enough for two plays.
Congrats to the winner!
I won $4 last nite, I'm going to get 2 Quick Picks for Saturday's Powerball ..........
and I didn't drop my ticket into my coffee, like my Mega Millions ticket!
ROTFL and I didn't lose $20 on a $1,000,000 Raffle Prize !

So, I take it the increase in the price for the powerball ticket, does not necessarily hinder purchase just, quantity, right?
So, folks still played albeit, not the same amount at half the price. Like you said peppy, now that we are in the $100 territory, $2 is not a hinderance anymore.
Hmm, let's see other commenters' take on this.
Thank you for your responses in advance.
"Forever wealth, start with determination. Luck, is a major key for the right place and the right time makes a difference."
Darn!!! I wanted to be the first. In August "07" I hit the second prize for $200k in NH, my redemption would be for that cool $1,000,000.000
Oh well.....chin up......march my buns back to my local supermarket and keep on playing. This Saturday???
A $1.00 increase should not detour you from your dreams. It's inevitable that all things will go up in price, be it gas, groceries, mortgages...... does that mean you will never buy these items again?
If you were to ask any major lottery winner if they had regretted spending the sometimes thousands or more to achieve their win........enough said.
I play my $2 ticket with powerplay so on saturday I would like to be the first $2 million winner since the game change. That would make my year!-weshar75
Thank you mcginnin. You are absolutely right, the cost of living is on the rise. Lol
I just wanted to hear people's opinions, I myself bought a quick pick out oc curiosity and, I still found out that people were purchasing with gusto.
Once again, thank you for your response and good luck to us all.........
Correct Sandia. 100M is hard to ignore. I just can't afford to now pay 10 bux for each drawing to buy 5 plays. I love playing the lottery and will never stop unless of course I hit the big one, but I'm not trying to go broke either.
Thank you for your response, Peppy. Two varied yet valid opinions from you and mcginnin. It depends on the individual and what he/she is willing to spend. The heart might be willing but the pocketbook, dictates.
The best of luck to you Peppy and the rest of the LP family.....
Out of the 3 commercials, I prefer #3
I once dropped an Expired Florida Lotto ticket into the toilet to see what would happen. Surprisingly, the paper is water retardant. Some other states use different papers and doesn't last for long
I ALSO WON $4. I ALREADY BOUGHT MY 2 QUICK PICKS FOR SATURDAY POWERBALL.
Did anyone else notice that they added the number "0" and the number "1" to the powerplay option?NEITHER of these two numbers will multiply a prize. When they first started the powerplay option they had the number "1,after a few months and I'm sure a lot of complaints they decided to drop the number "1" from their RNG machine.I'm going to write to my state lottery and complain. You should do the same if you if you feel this is unfair. You might also mention that you don't like the RNG machine drawings of these numbers.
I actually like commercial number 2 (Washington). It just fit with the NW's laid back style and I "got it" even though the ad didn't portray the red ball. My thought though is just imagine how many people passed up those $2 pair of pants?!!! Likewise, I find it interesting how many people pass up even having a chance to win when they say they only play when the jackpot exceeds, say 100 million dollars. I believe in hope and opportunity, but one can't have any hope of winning big if you have not availed yourself of the opportunity by purchasing a ticket for EACH and EVERY drawing. I imagine many of these same people who say they cannot afford to play every drawing of the big jackpot lottery games have a smoking habit or a drinking habit. That is amazing that people would blow $6 bucks per pack in a day but can't lay out a mere $6 bucks to have a drawing in for both Mega Millions and Powerball each week. To me it is a no brainer...I would drop the habit that only costs me money in a NY minute (now I am hoping some of that NY mojo will rub off on me here in the Ill state of IL; I say ill because our state is BROKE).
Cool to win 1 million when you just miss the Powerball number, and takes the sting out of it a bit. But still, I know people who are fortunate to even experience that bit of luck will think, "Oh so close to such a life altering sum of money"!
I like that the jackpot jumped by 20 million. I now have my goal set to win either the minimum Powerball jackpot amount or a nice, but not record breaking sum. I see millions of dollars in my near future! Watch out for me on TV when I appear for the winner's media coverage. I am going to be just a nonchalant as Mr. 258 Million dollars Shaw from Missouri when he strode up to the store where he purchased the ticket and told the people out with the local news crew that he thinks he won and even handed his ticket to the news reporter (now I won't do that as I also saw a video where a lady won $500 on a scratchoff ticket and a lady behind her asked her some questions about it before snatching the ticket and ran out of the store). People can write and call me begging for money, but it will be hard to get in touch with me as I will be a ultra frequent traveler (yup I wouldn't mind living out of a suitcase).
