The multi-state Powerball lottery drawing took place last night without any jackpot winners, causing the new jackpot for Wednesday's drawing to grow to an estimated $173 million, with a cash option of $107.7 million.
Saturday night was the 9th consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner.
Even though there were no jackpot winners, 8 lucky players matched the first 5 numbers for a $1,000,000 prize: 1 from Colorado, 2 from Florida, 1 from Idaho, 1 from Indiana, 1 from Louisiana, 1 from Minnesota, and 1 from Pennsylvania.
None of the second prize tickets was purchased with the Power Play option.
40 tickets matched four white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Of those tickets, 4 also were purchased with the Power Play option, increasing the prize to $40,000.
The Powerball winning numbers for Saturday, April 22, were 6, 8, 20, 42, and 51, with Powerball number 16.
The last Powerball jackpot to reach or exceed the size of the upcoming Wednesday drawing was on February 11, 2011, when Louise White, a "vivacious" 81-year-old from Newport, Rhode Island, won $336.4 million — the third-largest Powerball lottery jackpot in the history of the game. (See Rhode Island woman, 81, claims $336 Million Powerball jackpot, Lottery Post, March 6, 2012.)
A total of 668,762 tickets across the USA won more than $12.6 million in prizes playing "America's Game" Saturday. 105,636 of those winning tickets were purchased with the Power Play option, which increased their prizes up to 4 times.
When a Powerball ticket is purchased with the Power Play option for an extra $1 per ticket, any non-jackpot prize is increased by a set amount. For example, second-place Power Play-enabled tickets matching five numbers but not the Powerball are increased from $1 million to $2 million.
Powerball is now played in 42 states, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
The Powerball winning numbers are published at USA Mega (www.usamega.com) minutes after the drawing takes place.
Well it's about time PB. Roll PB, roll! WOOT!!
Won a whopping $4 last night, gonna roll it for Wedns + my usual $4. I may even throw in another $2. My palms are a itchin'.
$173 MILLION
powerball has a long way to go
Climb,baby climb!Climb to at least $200,000,000.
I've received a psychic impression that I'm not going to win the jackpot on this run (I'm an Oracle, you know).
Let's see if I'm right.
I had the Powerball with powerplay & I will get 4 X my money back when I get back home from IN!
Looking for a very nice wire transfer of $80,775,000 from the next Powerball Drawing!
Woo Hoo!
Odds are you're right!
Good things come in threes right ? Just got 2 pieces of great news earlier this week, so I am thinking that taking home the $173 million jackpot would be a logical choice for the third !!!!!
$173 million sounds good to me.....
Roll PB roll......
I am willing to drive to the border to buy PB tickets once it hits a record.
but $2 a ticket, it needs to get at least to $500M now
wake me when it breaks $475 million
Lump cash is finally over $100 million! time to donate a few bucks towards building the pot. Hope someone here gets lucky...won't be me but it's still fun to participate once in a while
Is someone splurging Good luck to you!
Sure I'd like to see it climb higher too but $173M POWERBALL is plenty for me. LET THE DREAMS BEGIN!
Yeah, at only $27K, I'll take it! C'mon Powerball!
Yes, it's uncanny how accurate I can be!
It's scary sometimes.
Four modest homes would certainly be a wise and useful choice instead of opting for one gigantic custom creation which may have rooms you may never see or use.
Hi Jill, thanks for calling my choices wise. I only need one home however. Gigantic would make me nervous. I live in tiny quarters so anything larger than where I live now would be great.
Here's my dream kitchen. I love the color scheme:
Modest but do you like it?
I like this one too!
Your choice in kitchens are nice.
I kind of like this toy from the 1980s thats in my garage
Nice houses, but much to large for my wife and I.A two bedroom ranch is more our style.
Hey Dana, nice looking car. Is it a Monte Carlo? What year is it? It's in great shape!
Hi Cletus, Yeah they are big (appox 3000 sq ft, i think). A two bedroom ranch sounds nice to me too.
New 2 bedroom rancher:
Yeah, you could build this next week with a Powerball win tonight! Good luck friend!
Thanks Jill, now c'mon Powerball!
Looks like an olds 442, look at the right side of the bumper.
Yeah, one of those houses would have been nice when my kids were still living at home. But with me & the wife,we just don't need or want that kind of room.I'm thinking along the lines of a one story home more in line with our middle class background.I don't need to impress anyone with my wealth.I would like to have a couple of acres with the house on it,though.I hate close neighbors.Good luck tonight,to you too.
Not sure what the market is like for two bedroom single family homes but I am sure there are numerous 2 bedroom condos(over looking the ocean) that would take care of all your needs.
Except for the close neighbors.
Yep, I didn't notice that it was an issue until I saw your most recent post.
Besides,a condo is just a fancy name for expensive apartment house.I'll probably just purchase a couple of acres of beautiful Iowa real estate overlooking the Mississippi River and build a nice comfortable two bedroom ranch home.
t This would be just perfect .
Just a tad to rustic for my tastes.
Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, not anymore. Another state I do not live in. Pennsylvania won.
even if your state won, do you really think it was going to be u? i really cut back on what i spend because i havent won a penny in months and im opening my eyes to the reality.
Well, since I don't have the gift like Miss Cleo, I don't know if it's me or not until after the drawing. What reality?
haha the reality that its hard as hell to win anything
One winner from PA. perhaps DPoly finally got lucky? would be nice to have someone from LP finally win.
Fooey. I was gonna let it roll over one more time. At least you will get more chances if you wait.
The drawback of waiting for Mega Millions and Powerball rollovers is that you have zero chances of winning in the drawings that you do not participate.
Does PA lottery allows winners to remain anonomous?
Everyone who plays already knows that. Many will play, but very few will actually win.
100% correct.
I was thinking the same thing. Has DPoly checked in today?
The 48 winners were from Philadelphia,, an office pool, one person forgto to play, HELLO lawsuit......
yea, read elsewhere that the player that did not play was their manager,
48 ppl. ? . think the mgr. had a problem w/ at least one of em ?
So after taxes and everything , each one of them will receive about $2 million. Hopefully most of them are old people like that recent mega millons couple from Red Bud.
Unless he's one of the many SEPTA workers he didn't.
LP mini quiz,
S.E.P.T.A
stands for,
#1 South Eastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority
#2 Systimatically Eliminating Public Transportation Altogether.
i think that was a insider joke, i had freinds that worked there,
also 2 uncles that have long since passed, even before it was named that.
I'm surprised there hasn't been a story about the winners in the LP news forum.

Maloney said the group buys tickets regularly, but says it's more of a floating pool.
It turns out, an IT technician who usual contributes to the pool did not this time.
"She didn't pay up recently, they sent her an email and she didn't respond so she was out on the winnings," SEPTA employee Mitch Schwed said.
Law suit is on the way
Roger that, THRIFTMEISTER.
You have reached the final plateau.
