I have had people surprise me to the depths of both their generosity and depravity.  it wasnt that i was blind to their 'tendencies' but i just didnt know how 'through and through' different aspects of their personality went...

so i suppose that i am saying that yes, it is possible for someone to be blind to how stupid/mean/evil/idiotic someone they love or are close to ... actually is.  and sometimes we just simply blind ourselves.  i would hope not to THIS degree. 

i still hold that the mom and son have had a falling out and this is her 'trump' card that she is pulling out cuz he (son) isnt falling into the family-line.
