'Robot' to replace Michigan Lottery readers

Michigan Lottery

DETROIT, Mich. — It's the end of the line for the three people who read the lottery numbers on Detroit TV.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeil reports Aggy Usedly, Beth McCleod and Darryl Wood will no longer announce the winning numbers on TV.

Usedly said she and the two others who read the numbers got the word a couple of weeks ago — and it came as a surprise.

"Our contract was up September 29th and our union rep had been contacting this gentleman in Lansing about getting together to renew the contract and then he called and said that they were not going to do that," Usedly said.

She said it's simply a sign of the times. "They're just going automated now. (We're) being replaced by a robot."

The Lottery Commission's Andi Brancato said state lotteries across the country are moving to "a more streamlined process" and Michigan is just following along with that trend.

For Usedly it's an end to a 35-year career.

She jokes that she's one of the last of the breed — local TV celebrities who aren't on the news. She said she gets recognized everywhere. "Oh, you're the lottery lady or, you know ... (they say) you're Aggie Usedly, and that's not an easy name pronounce sometimes and they remember that."

Usedly said she's loved the job.

"I enjoy it. I really do. I guess I'm a ham at heart," she said, adding that she does look forward to spending more time in Florida and traveling.

This will probably set a precedent in many other areas.

TV news reports, actors, politicians, comedians....maybe even our next President will be a HAL series 9000 robot.   Conehead

Wonder if robot Presidents require a salary, or secret service protection.  What?

That is where a great many of your jobs went in this country.

Their contract was up, and yet they were "surprised" that it would not be renewed???

They should have expected to lose their jobs.

rdgrnr's avatarrdgrnr

Are they American robots or did they outsource them?

And will they have to join the union?

billbo45

my thoughts  about the union don't matter nor does anyone care because i don't but," Our contract was up September 29th and our union rep."

did you know that the crossings guards in ny have a union and if you want o be a crossing guard you have to pay the dues. hope there better then the union in the story. too bad they are loseing their Job seems like a good one

In Michigan, caretakers of homebound medicaid recipients are considered union members. SEIU takes $30 of every medicaid check for union dues, even if that medicaid patient's caregivers are their parents or other family members.  SEIU says "Thank you, Gov Ginny."

So how do you pronounce it ?

Usee-dly ?

Used-lee ?

Us-dly ?

U-seed-lee ?

Sed-lee ( silient U) ?

I guess locals that watched the show knew how to pronounce it, even before how to spell it,

and were saying how do you spell that ?

Imagine a winner w/ that name trying to keep a low profile ?

The Lottery Commission's Andi Brancato said state lotteries across the country are moving to "a more streamlined process"

..really???sales are so piss poor you can't afford people anymore to say a three and 4 digit number????What?....

I doubt it.Streamlined prolly means pay increases for Andi.

If those robot are made in this country then they'll cost all three of the announcers combined  lol

My man mcginnin, what's up?

Robots are replacing everyone. And they keep talking about "job creation"! Create a job then replace them with a robot, machine or computer.

Here's a photo of Beth McCloud (left) and Aggie Usedly (right) when they were employed:

As soon as the robot finishes getting his oil change and ball bearings greased.  Thumbs Up

jamella724

Are they serious? Robot to replace human beings?  I don't know how to react.  But it seems they are making major changes in their technology to make sure that there wouldn't be any technical problem.

One does not need to wait for a lottery win to do this! One can play the lottery and write!

My wish is for everyone to stop playing these lotteries then they would stop cheating the people, but that would never happen. It's hard to do I know.I'd be the first to tell how hard it is in my wonderful state of scamming. But it can be done.I'm proof.

I think the Robots would be getting reparations, before they start paying taxes.
