I am curious to learn how exactly Mr Campisi’s experience with the Florida lottery ticket scanner, complaints to the Exxon station owners, the Florida Lottery and by extension GTech, found its way to the Press, and get published. Who among the four key players in this event, Mr Campisi, the Exxon Station, the Florida Lottery, and GTech could have called the press conference or issued the press release that granted print-level status to Campisi’s experience with a Florida lottery ticket scanner? It is highly unlikely that the Florida Lottery or GTech could have initiated the effort, and the Exxon station is equally highly unlikely to have granted Campisi’s single scanner user complaint any more attention, than it would have done to the myriads of complaints that it receives daily from its customers. Nevertheless, the station removed and resolved Campisi’s burden by using its other computer to scan his tickets, and provide him satisfactory results. The lottery ticket scanner on the counter is in-effect a scaled down version of the same computer behind the counter, which the store clerk uses to scan lottery tickets. The scanner that Campisi used, successfully read his ticket, because it did display a completion of scan request, that the ticket scanned, was NOT a winner. By his own admission, Campisi had used the scanners before, and by inference had received un-questioned satisfactory results. At 48 years old, Campisi has been on planet earth for nearly five decades and have accumulated extensive knowledge base on how things really work on this earth, and constant absolute ever perfection is not one of the graces of this planet.
Campisi set aside his knowledge of his broken can opener(s) on his kitchen counter, frozen computer, broken watches, and his record of trips back to the Kmarts, Walmarts, etc customer services desks, to return the same items that he had purchased that was working before he left the store, to lock on, to an opportunity to attract the cameras. Campisi probably has never been on a bus, and the fare machine (scanner) would not successfully scan his worn-out dollar bill until the benevolence of a fellow passenger who trades his roughed up bill for a cleaner crispier bill, which retire his quarrels with the fare machine. Campisi probably has never owned a worn-out credit or debit card or card key that would not scan and allow completion of his mission. I do suspect that Campisi must have had ample share of experiences with scanners that were not always positive, and all that had to be set aside because there was a good and rare opportunity for Campisi to engage the Press and reach the world with the power of the Internet. It appears that Campisi has a thing or two for popularity and remains the only candidate of the four, to most likely have called in, the Press Squadron on this matter. Campisi in-effect rejected the technological expertise of GTech, the extensive fiduciary responsibilities and answers of the Florida Lottery as well as the Exxon station, and implicitly advanced personal infallibility on his part, on at least, the matter of using a Florida lottery ticket scanner. At the end of the day, Mr Campisi who declared that the $6.00 win was not the issue, has successfully met his goal for popularity with the domineering pose before the barely noticeable Exxon station background, a published article about himself, a prospective Wikepedia entry and search engines results’ contents.

I believe him... Its happened to me on more than one occasion in Illinois. I've scanned a ticket, and it seems like if you scan your next ticket before the machine clears out, it can give you an error, or say "sorry not a winner", than if you rescan, low-and-behold, you may have had a winner.... I kind of think that is why so much prize money goes unclaimed, because throw away their winning tickets after the machine tells them that its "sorry, not a winner"... ~BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO BEAT THE ODDS, BE SURE YOU COULD SURVIVE THE ODDS BEATING YOU~ ~CAVEAT EMPTOR~

I'm surprised nobody's expressed shock and surprise that Mr. Campisi encountered an honest clerk. After all, according to some people here, all clerks are crooks just waiting to strike.

Clerks and crooks, sounds like a marriage made in heaven. Is there really any difference between one and the other?

I wonder if it depends on how the ticket is folded, if that would give a 'not a winner' outcome or otherwise.' So the reason I bring this up is (and I know it's not a lottery scanner), but a few weeks ago I was at my gym scanning my keychain tag upon arrival. The display shows how many days until you renew (it's paid yearly). I knew I only had about 14 days or so, but it showed I had 50. I didnt pay it any mind until I did renew and I scanned the tag one more time to see. It gave a 'red alert!' type of loud message and the clerk came over to check it out. She said that because my tag had been folded, it was essentially bringing up someone else's account! I think this same situation COULD apply to lotto scanners. I am not saying this was the case here, I could just see someone scanning and it showing incorrectly. Bottom line folks, check your tickets or just leave them behind for someone else to.

A lot of people are in a rush to see if they've won something and are relying on a machine to quickly tell them whether or not they did. I see it in some stores, people come in with a stack of saved jp tickets and run them through the scanner so fast there sure can't be time for it to catch up with how fast they are scanning them. The machine has to give the message and clear, go too fast and messages are going to get bungled, overlap and get messed up. I'm sure that some people have thrown some good winning tickets away. 973 976 957 842 947 636 486 642 234(up str 5/14) 978

I think clerks should go through an initiation like some gang members do where everybody beats the hell out of them when they join the gang. Except this would be the customers doing it. Whenever a new clerk starts the job, all the customers gather around and kick the livin' hell out of him.

For this percentage of rush scanners, they have no one to blame but themselves.
