A retired hospice chaplain from Glen Ellyn, Illinois, was sitting on a $1 million winning lottery ticket for two months until two weeks ago when he decided to clean up his desk.

"About 12 tickets had accumulated on my desk, and I decided to tidy up to make room for my new computer. I checked the winning numbers on the Illinois Lottery website and just about screamed when I saw that I won," said Ron Yurcus in a release from the Illinois Lottery issued the week.

Yurcus matched the first five numbers in the Aug. 22 Powerball drawing.

He and his wife Kathleen, Glen Ellyn residents for 45 years, plan to invest the money and share it with family, including their three children and four grandchildren. They also plan to donate to charities.

The lottery also presented a BP store in Glen Ellyn, at 339 Roosevelt Road, with a ceremonial bonus check for $10,000 for selling the winning ticket. The ceremony was Wednesday, said lottery spokeswoman Micaela Small.

Mr. Yurcus, was lucky enough to clean up his desk and found the winning ticket... He may have felt something from within that made him decide to check on lottery online.  Luckily, he never threw up the tickets...just really a lucky man on the planet...

Nice story, if I ever win a large amount I plan on waiting until I've come up with an equally nice story before I cash in my ticket too.

                * you don't need more tickets, just the right ticket *
                * your best chance at winning a lottery jackpot is to buy a ticket *

We should all wait until we come up with the most outrageous stories, before we cash in.

It would be pathetically boring, to hear that someone won via the usual QP, playing birthday numbers, etc.   Yawn

Congratulations - wonderful surprise for you and your family.

After reading this I decided to clean up a desk and a table.  I found 2 scratch-offs.  Worth $1 each.  Finally, a system that works!

I can't think of a better person to win than Rev. Yurcus.  Hospice is such a wonderful organization.  I hope he has a wonderful retirement.
