There was no jackpot winner in the Saturday night drawing of the multi-state Powerball game, causing the grand prize to increase to an estimated $250 million for Wednesday's drawing.
Saturday was the 13th consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner. The current jackpot run started October 6 as a $40 million jackpot.
The estimated cash value for the new jackpot is $166.8 Million. After-tax cash and annuity prize amounts are reported state-by-state on the Jackpot Analysis page at USA Mega, a web site devoted to the Powerball and Mega Millions multi-state lottery games.
This is the largest Powerball jackpot since Aug. 15, 2012, when 44-year-old railroad engineer Donald Lawson of Lapeer, Michigan, won a $337 million Powerball jackpot (see Michigan railroad engineer claims $337M Powerball lottery jackpot, Lottery Post, August 31, 2012).
Players should note that jackpot amounts are conservative estimates provided by the lotteries, and are often somewhat higher by the time the drawing occurs.
Even though there were no jackpot winners, 6 lucky players matched the first 5 numbers for a $1,000,000 prize: 1 from Florida, 1 from Illinois, 2 from New York, and 2 from Texas.
Of all the second-prize winners, only one ticket from Texas was purchased with the Power Play option for an extra $1. Because they purchased the Power Play, that particular ticket is now worth $2 million.
51 tickets matched four white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Of those tickets, 7 were purchased with the Power Play option, increasing the prize to $40,000.
When a Powerball ticket is purchased with the Power Play option for an extra $1 per ticket, any non-jackpot prize is increased according to a fixed prize schedule, which can be found on the Powerball Drawing Detail page at USA Mega, as well as on the Powerball Prize Payouts page at Lottery Post.
The Powerball winning numbers for Saturday, November 17, were 3, 15, 27, 58, and 59, with Powerball number 20.
Following the Saturday drawing, the Powerball annuity jackpot estimate was raised $36 million from its previous amount of $214 million. The cash value was raised by $23.8 million from its previous amount of $143 million.
The next Powerball drawing will take place Wednesday evening at 10:59 pm EDT.
Powerball is now played in 42 states, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Tickets cost $2 each.
Powerball lottery results are published within minutes of the drawing at USA Mega.
I WILL PLAY THE LOTTERY SOMEDAY TO AVOID THE LOTTERY INSANITY. IT IS OKAY TO DREAM.

SET A LOTTERY STOP LOSS LIMIT TO MINIMIZE OUR LOSSES.
A lottery stop loss limit is very important to be a successful lottery player over the long term.
GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY
You know the jackppot is MASSIVE if it gets Thrifty out of his bed this early and listening to his subliminal message recordings!
PAAAARRRRRRTAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, do I love a party.
Good luck everybody!
yawn...
when it reaches 10 Billion then we'll play.
Gotta' that Italian blend of coffee!
No, no, no. Today I am drinking "Taste of San Antonio", a medium roast of arabic coffee, cinnamon, chocolate, and vanilla. 2nd cup.
I kinda went cold turkey on the Powerball but now I have POWERBALL FEVER! I was offered a misprint and declined and just bought my regular quick picks and self pick and then when I got home and thought about how past winners won on misprints I called the store up to see if the $3.00 ticket was still there and it was so I went back out into the cold and bought it!
Figured it's Ohio's time to win since we hardly ever win any large jackpots anymore.
Sorry, I lose track. It's like Baskin-Robbins 31 ice cream flavors, never know which one it is today.
You must be bouncing off the ceiling by that third cup. (if you allow yourself that lethal dose).
I have already chosen my numbers! Go lottery shaker!
I have a feeling that this jackpot may be over 300 million by the time November 28 comes around.... I'm just saying in my opinion. Wow 250 million, I hit that and it will be the best merry Christmas that me and my family will have.
1 more rollover then there will be a BIG WINNER on 11-24-12
I bought my quick pic ticket last night on the eleventh hour. It was a loser. My next one will be self chosen numbers on the eleventh hour of the draw.
It will win me something, I think.
You will win a JP someday........
Good Luck, I restrained myself from buying the PB ticket last nite.
Hope may go and buy 2 tickets today
mesmerizing,.,.,., I love waking up to one of Thrifty's MESMERIZING posts........
That's a real polite way of putting it..... Because I didn't even bother....... lol. lol.
Thrifty was on this news story as if he were in collaboration.......
That be oneBIG party.............
No big deal, really.
Arabic??? Isn't that the cheap stuff...... Perhaps you use the "espresso" grind???
I went cold toooo, but haven't found a reason to "fever" yet...........
I see it as the states holding 100's of millions and only paying out 5.
Most likely as it was store brand. However, it is HEB Cafe Ole' brand. *Special* My new fave flavor.
"A medium-bodied Mexican blend accented with subtle undertones of cinnamon and chocolate, capturing the Old World mystique of one of the most picturesque and historic cities in Texas."
I loved shopping at HEB in TX, out here we have AJ's which is much poshier...... (Nice coffee description, sounds just like a Mexican cigar I smoked once upon a time)
Are you using a French Press. I have one and it will make you dance like lil hillbillies after one cup.
Really? was it because you didn't have time or you didn't feel lucky?
I went last minute because I felt that maybe I would get something small for my efforts, lol. It didn't happen.
Good one RedStang, heck no... I tried that once and it took me 2 days to stop trebling. lol. lol.
I am a proponent of the automatic drip coffee making system.... lol. lol.
My approach to lottery play is getting BETTER ODDS and PB has stretched the limits of improbability.
They are holding $100's of millions. If they could figure out a way to award a few extra million each draw regardless if the JP was won or not I think more people would be interested in playing.
The last time I threw $20. bucks down on it I turned over the ticket and realized I was only going to get $100. dollars if I hit a 3+1. I felt insulted by the muilt million $$ giant and I don't understand why anyone plays??
Do people have ANY concept of the fact that the odds of 3+1 are 1 in 12,245........ ???????????
That means you can spend $24,490. for a break even chance at winning $100. ...................
OH.... and the odds for a 4+0 which also pays $100. are even greater at 1 in 19,088..........
Would anyone like to trade me $38,176. for $100. Please. ??
Ohio has stopped putting the odds of winning on their PowerBall play slips while continuing to put them all the other games' play slips. I think it may be because PB ticket cost $2 per line and the odds on the other games are based on a dollar per line and based on cost per line those odds might confuse or discourage customers from playing PB.
Okay Ronnie! I'm getting depressed and what's worse the Xanax bottle is empty and my concierge doctor is in Maui with his hooker turned fiance. This is not the time for REALITY CHECKS.
OOpsadaisey........ Try and hold together Original Bey. I stand corrected by RJOh as the PB play slip does in fact say "ODDS PER PLAY" which is very good news because now you only need to trade $19k to get $100.
I sincerely hope this helps.
Except "A PLAY" still cost $2....... Go figure........
Interesting RJOh, I dont think the back of my play slip has changed at all......
Its still 1 in 5,153,632 "per play" for the 5+0
I will consider your offer if you will accept payment in the form of my prediction board payouts.
Exchange prediction board credits for cash??? Not a bad idea, perhaps management will consider the idea??
Excellent predictions btw....... You blew the stated lottery odds completely away with your number sets....
I had a BOSS turned fiance once...... We never made it to the alter........
Perhaps you could be encouraged by the fact that the last person to win a PB JP was "the Donald" who played 4 QPs and a self pick on one play slip for the big win......
Good luck to all who choose to play.
Whew! It does help a whole lot.
So are you telling me to move to small town America (I currently live between Florida and the Bahamas), put on 400lbs, grow my hair (I wear it bald now) open an account on match.com and wait for some divine intervention to guide my hand to selecting the winning numbers?
I think "Queens" may suit you well......... Bring a hat though...... lol. lol.
That's part of my new strategy. Not satisfied with the number groups the lottery give you, make up your own, after all the drawing will only be using groups of 5 and 1.
I won't be able to reduce my groups to six, but I think I can get smaller with some rule changes. For example, if I have only used numbers in that group that had hit in the last sixteen drawings I would have done better.
I got out of bed early to check my $10 powerball quick pick ticket. I caught 3 numbers on line A of my $10 powerball ticket. I had the powerball 19, and powerball 20 came out last night. Yes, I missed winning $100 by a single digit.
Check your TICKET? Yesterday was the SOMEDAY you so often speak of? Sound the alarm.
Congrats on the $7 win and welcome to "live" play.
Jingle $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for Thanksgiving ............
about a $125,100,000 wire transfer to your bank account for the winner from Pennsylvania !
Thanks, I actually lost $3 on the powerball $10-$7=$3.
I can tell you don't gamble often. A "true gambler" would see that as a 7 dollar win and not factor what was spent in the equation.
This lottery thing gets reallly scary really fast when you start focusing on those "technicalities".
I think it is freaking awesome RJOh, your BETTER ODDS of hitting 5 of 5 were 1 in 435,897 last night.
While the rest of the world was playing at 1 in 5,153,632 odds.
Playing anything above zero on any lottery game improves your odds of winning to infinity.
I think you may be speaking of mcginnin56, in NH. I feel certain he has a claim on the prize.....
I am a THRIFTY but loyal lottery player.
tOO infinity and beyond Thrifty...........
May the "Thrift" be with you........
The odds of winning any lottery don't go to infinity, they are fixed based on the amount of numbers in the pools you are picking from.
Thrifty will win the big jackpot someday. I'm a believer.
Your reputation precedes you.
If you're not going to win, it's good to get something back. That's why I sent out the congrats. I got zilch off my numbers this week. Back to tweaking my revised strategy. Hopefully I will do better come Wednesday.
DO YOU SET A LOTTERY STOP LOSS LIMIT TO MINIMIZE YOUR LOSSES?
But the chances of winning are "infinitely" better WITH a ticket, than they are WITHOUT a ticket.
And there is no such thing as "losing" until there is no money left to bet with......
Then I saw her face his winning picks
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind
Now im a believer
Yes I'm a believer, yeah, yeah, yeah
Now I'm a believer
YES, I CAN ONLY LOSE WHAT I SPEND.
Stop loss? Sounds millitary to me.
I gamble until I am exhausted and then I use the rest to pay the bills.
Seriously though, I run a strict budget no matter the JP size as the size of the JP doesn't change the odds.
.............IM NOT ALOWED TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS>
Ronnie, you always pay careful attention to my posts.
Of course Thrifty, you are the master of the Positive Energy Flow and you will win the JP someday...
Is that what the polls are telling you? Don't be like Romney the night of the drawings.
The reality of playing the lottery is that we are going to lose money in order to win big someday. I set a lottery stop loss limit to minimize shock to my finances.
Budgeting keeps us all in for the long haul.
I have my finger on the pulse of LP and Thrifty is taking a commanding lead in the run for a JP.......
Chasing jackpot rollovers by playing multiple lines is not a smart idea because it is a matter of time before someone that never played the lottery wins the whole thing with a single line.
The Connecticut asset managers?
RN >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>100%
today is the day>"BEFORE" MG win'$
I play the lottery, but i am afraid of winning a lottery jackpot someday. I usually play to win a second prize on MM or PB. Winning a big lottery jackpot is not a good idea because I can't be anonymous in New York.
Sometimes it weeks before I can hit a 3ball in box play at 50 cents. In a moment of lucidity I ask myself, why am I playing the Powerball again? 3ball odds are 1:1000 and further reduced if you're going after a box hit. If I struggle doing that imagine 175 mil to 1!
Claim the prize as an "entity" and have a representative do all the claiming and appearing???
Yeah he will win TOMORROW! I'll go after the JP for Wednesday
You have to think small whenever you play jackpot games. I really play to win $1,000,000 on mega millions or powerball. Winning a jackpot will be great if can remain anonymous in New York.
Perhaps if all lottery players everywhere agree, they will just give him the JP NO ticket needed//
I dont even consider the bonus money, so my odds are 1 in 5.1 million or BETTER.
My brother lives up there and he hates that part as well. In Florida they publish your name and city. Press conferences are not required but they will beg you to do one. They usually back off after you point to the riffle in the pick-up truck.
"There's something women love about a pick-up man!"
You can't do that in New York. They require for you to appear and your name to be public. I have seen New York lottery players claiming their jackpots through trusts and LLC, and they appeared on the press conference. The lottery also published their names.
How bout a private non-operating foundation claiming the prize??
"There's something women love about a pick-up man!"
Thats me!!!!! I qualify......... And mine is brand new, does that help too??
The following winner gave a press conference and had his name published even though he claimed the jackpot under a trust in New York. He did wear a very dark glasses though.
July 7, 2009 - $133 million won by The Archibald Trust of Queens, NY
Another winner that showed up to the press conference and had her name published after claiming the jackpot though a LLC.
Hartsdale Powerball winner steps forward to receive $70,000,000 jackpot prize
Tara Ramirez, of Hartsdale, Westchester County, today received a $70,000,000 Powerball prize check on behalf of the Case Park, LLC, a limited liability company she created following the February 25 Powerball drawing that made her a Lottery millionaire overnight. The 37-year-old Ramirez is the company's sole member and benefactor. By powerball
Anybody know when it's Texas turn?
I would claim my jackpot as soon as possible if I receive the curse of winning one other than a $1 million second prize. I will wear dark glasses and speak with a very heavy accent.
KZ:
Everyday is a WINNER for Texas>>>>>>it aunt over YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol!
Mine is a 2010, but I met all my wives in traffic jams...!
You should definitely be able to top my achievements
Play the lottery someday.
Buy a lottery ticket someday.
Hey, you never know.
Good luck.
NY has not met its annual quoto as yet. So the current schedule is null and void. Texas was supposed to split a win in December. Cross your fingers that NY wins this one to move your state up the list.
Its okay to win Thrifty. I was told NY will be building drive-thru lottery offices for those that suffer from anonymous paranoia.
I live in ny, and I have never won $10k playing the lottery. I rarely see anybody winning a jackpot in New York City. Long Island and Staten Island win the most jackpots. I feel that they need to win a lottery jackpot more than ever after being hit by hurricane sandy.
AHA! I knew it! There's a schedule. Good luck NY I hope you win.
The New York lottery needs to spread those jackpots all over the state. I am tired of seeing Long Island winning most jackpots and second prizes.
