$1 million Powerball winner goes unclaimed in Idaho

PowerballPowerball: $1 million Powerball winner goes unclaimed in Idaho

Rating:

A $1 million lottery prize has gone unclaimed six months after the winning ticket was sold at a Meridian, Idaho, convenience store.

Someone bought the $2 Powerball quick pick from the Maverik store at North Locust Grove Road and East McMillian Road June 19. It won the jackpot June 20, but no one ever claimed the prize within 180 days as required.

The store that sold the winning ticket will still get the $20,000 bonus from the Idaho Lottery.

Lottery officials say it's a great reminder to carefully check tickets. They issued a plea last week for the winner to come forward.

"With the gift giving season quickly upon us, we cannot emphasize enough for players to check their tickets carefully after each and every draw for winners," said Idaho Lottery Director Jeff Anderson in a prepared statement."With a holiday themed line up of scratch tickets and the Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle close to selling out, we want to remind players this season to sign their tickets and check them carefully for winners."

The unclaimed $1 million reverts back to the lottery prize fund, which benefits public schools and the State of Idaho's buildings.

This news breaks my heart. I hope the ticket owner will never find out because they will be very sad. I also hope nothing happened to them. You never know.

The ticket might have been lost somewhere by the owner and can't find it anymore...This will definitely be a great loss to the owner and the store owner too....I hope that they will find the ticket soon....
