$208 MILLION: Massive Powerball jackpot to be drawn Wednesday

Powerball

By Todd Northrop

There was no jackpot winner in the Saturday night drawing of the multi-state Powerball lottery game, causing the grand prize to increase to an estimated $208 million for Wednesday's drawing.

Saturday was the 11th consecutive Powerball drawing without a jackpot winner.  The jackpot run started Dec. 29 as a $40 million jackpot.

The estimated cash value for the new jackpot is $130.7 million. After-tax cash and annuity prize amounts are reported state-by-state on the Jackpot Analysis page at USA Mega, a web site devoted to the Powerball and Mega Millions multi-state lottery games.

Players should note that jackpot amounts are conservative estimates provided by the lotteries, and are often somewhat higher by the time the drawing occurs.

Although there were no jackpot winners Saturday, 7 lucky players matched the first 5 numbers for a $1,000,000 prize: 1 from Idaho, 1 from Massachusetts, 2 from New York, 1 from Pennsylvania, 1 from Texas, and 1 from Washington.

Of all the second-prize winners, only the ticket from Texas was purchased with the Power Play option for an extra $1. Because they purchased the Power Play, that particular ticket is now worth $2 million.

43 tickets matched four white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Of those tickets, 7 were purchased with the Power Play option, increasing the prize to $40,000.

The Powerball winning numbers for Saturday, February 2, were 11, 16, 33, 40, and 41, with Powerball number 34.

Following the Saturday drawing, the Powerball annuity jackpot estimate was raised $32 million from its previous amount of $176 million. The cash value was raised by $19.1 million, from its previous amount of $111.6 million.

The next Powerball drawing will take place Wednesday evening at 10:59 pm Eastern Time.

When a Powerball ticket is purchased with the Power Play option for an extra $1 per ticket, any non-jackpot prize is increased according to a fixed prize schedule, which can be found on the Powerball Drawing Detail page at USA Mega, as well as on the Powerball Prize Payouts page at Lottery Post.

Powerball is now played in 42 states, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. California will become Powerball's 43rd participating state when tickets go on sale in the state on April 8, 2013.

Powerball drawings are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59 pm Eastern Time. Tickets cost $2 each.

The Powerball winning numbers are published at USA Mega (www.usamega.com) minutes after the drawing takes place.

Good luck to everyone for this Wednesday's drawing. If you live in a state that doesn't have state income tax then $73 million net (after 39.6% Federal and 3.8% Obamacare tax) should take real care of you and your family. If New Jersey is your home state, then a tad over $59 million will be your net cash amount.

On a side note, the winner can minimize their tax obligations if he/she were to donate a substantial amount to their favorite charities Smile

The 3.8% Obamacare tax is added to any earned or unearned income over 250k. If you win, just be glad that you are contributing your "fair share" so that the ones who don't won't classify you as evil.

Are you kidding me? Who are these evil people that come to take away your minimum wage earning? Lol, some of you are laughably delusional. Ironically enought its your class of people (the one that spend insane amount of their earnings on lottery) that this goes to help. You guys are complaining of being taxed of the millions you haven't won and have one in over 170 million chance of wining?

Are you kidding me? Talk about pure delusion. Cut down on the Fox News and go outside or travel a bit. Stop demonizing the segment of a population you or some in your family unknowingly represent. The rich laughs while delusional poor fights on their behalf. I have news for you. You'll never be as rich as the people you think are being "robbed" to benefit the "parasites" You vehimnetly despise. Well at least you have 1 in 170million chance so I guess that's something. So relax and when you become rich then start demonizing others because right now you're only insulting your own intelligence.

Many people despise the class warfare (labeling rich people as "greedy", etc.) because they believe that in America, success should never be punished or derided.  Even though most people will never reach the 1%, that doesn't mean that there should be a mob mentality of trying to take all of the money acquired by the people who have reached that success.  That's what socialist governments do, not governments of free people.

Your comment basically says that because you or I will never be one of the 1%, we should not defend their right to keep their money.  My reply to you is that I would strongly defend their right to keep their money, because nobody should be subject to that kind of treatment in America.  In this country everyone is treated the same.  At least they should be.

In a free society there is equal opportunity, not equal outcomes.

I Agree! And I would add that the vast majority of the people who have reached that success have done so spending their lives (and sometimes generations of lives) producing the goods and services (along with the capacity to deliver those goods and services) that most of the rest of us enjoy using on a daily basis.

(Not to mention the all the creation of jobs and income that so many of us enjoy having.)

I think the real point is that no one "class" should have the burden of bringing in the $$$. It's funny that when they redid the bankruptcy laws your required to go through a credit counseling course to understand the concept of " don't spend more than you bring in." Yet the same people who put that into law can't seem to follow those same basic principles.

You're right ... that amount is mind boggling!  I seriously think that MOST people don't have a concept of what a million is, let alone $208 million.

Personally, I wouldn't want that much.  I would really like to win about $5 million.  I don't have to worry about winning the $208 M, because I don't even play MM or PB.  I refuse to play a game with odds as absurdly high as those games, as long as I have a better option.  My game is Hot Lotto.  I have to cross into Kansas to play ... but one plus is that WHEN I win, I can collect anonymously in KS.

I spent many many years playing Missouri Lotto, but finally felt like I wasn't winning enough of the smaller prizes, so decided to change my game.  I do feel like I need to at least play a game that starts at a million ... so I have the possibility of retirement.  I'd be nervous to quit my job if it weren't at least 1.5 - 2.0 million.

First of all Welcome to the Lottery Post, and I  hope that your experience here will be fulfilling, and I believe that it will be.

Your Courage to speak up against unwarranted and unnecessary denigration of others affirms the basis of my belief.

I agree with you and I applaud you for the Courage to bring forth profoundly and succinctly, to the attention of many in this post, that its is not right at all, to harbour and advance contemptuous, and disdainful views, opinions and false perception and representations of the marginalized of our society, as such positions in life, presumes, infallibility, invincibility, and a privileged fixed  and un-changing immunity from potential real and possible dangers, issues, problems, hardships, e.t.c.  that could come to bear on any living event, including each and everyone of us humans, at any time in one's tenure of life and existence on earth, without warning and notice.

Your comments about those standing around  that classify you and Jill as evil is untrue, baseless and unfounded.

If they have knowledge of you and Jill as you have admittedly claimed to have knowledge of them, then you should have the decency to reciprocate the gesture with a little more dignity in representation of their state in life to Internet readers. However, since they have no knowledge of you and Jill, there is no opinion positive or negative that is held and/or espoused about and you and Jill as evil by these persons, so  mockingly referred to, as those standing around with their hand out

You keep forgetting one thing that "those standing around with their handouts" have also been  known for the record, to win in many departments of life, saving lives, money, etc, etc. I believe that there was a homeless person that had won $25m or so in one of the games and countless others who were down on thier knees, that you could not see the invisible signs that they held and carried around alright, have had their states and conditions in life turned around with cash, work, education, careers, just opportunity granted etc.

This is such a silly argument I don't even know where to begin. I get the Fox News' narrative some of you follow but I also can't help but wonder why and how you failed to realize the silliness in a loaded statment with buzz words such as this.

No one is  waging a class warfare (despite the buzz words you hear on Fox) but since income rate has decreased for 95% of working Americans within the last two decades while at the same time imrpoving by over 200% for the top 1% earners, pointing out the unfairness of the system is not only necessary but crucial. Do you guys even know the new tax rate (that's supposed to rip the rich people off) is the same rate as it was during the Clinton era prior to Bush slashed it?

As far as "greedy"... corporate bonues within the last two decades have grown by 1000% percent while average wage has stagnated. That's far from "equal opportunity". I don't know what kind of work that deserves a $10 million bonus a year. Investment earnings have exploded and taxes from said earnings were slashed during Republican administrations to help a few individuals that can invest and earn insane retuns. That type of setting has shifted a considerable amount of the economy to the specualtive section of the sector. These types of enviorments with little to no oversight helped a few of those with incredible connection and opportunity to strangle the economy and those in Wall St to gamble entire fortunes of millions of people in order to benefit their "investors". These situations have had dire consequences that affected more than 95% of the population.

I always wondered what makes a rather rational people like you defend a position such as this. Is it lack of education? inability to underatsnd complex issues such as this? is it because they let somene else (like those on TV) do the thinking for them?

In conclusion, there is no "class warfare" that was waged despite the scare tactic that was used by the rich. I find it ironic and almost laughable the people that defend these positions and proclaim American freedom get their news from a network owned by an Australian and a Saudi Arabian. Those two guys are brilliant. What an investment. <snip> I wish I had thought of a business model that  was founded and depends on scaring the hell out of poor Americans while earning millions. Now, that's American capitalism at its finest. Make the money somehow I guess.

Thank you,

It's refreshing to see someone with above average intelligence that understands a complex subject such as this.

I find this new found attitude of demonizing these invinsble "parasites" who are our mothers, sisters, brother, cousins, police officers, fire fighters, high school football coaches and e.t.c incredibly disturbing. Guys who make 20 million a year on Fox scare the guy that earns $35k and you see common sense being thrown out the window.

"Class warfare" is nothing new. In a nation with a unique and might I add disturbing history like America, it was used on multiple occasions and in different forms. It was once "race warfare" prior to that it was "ethnicity warfare". All these words and misguided descriptions were used to describe a social setting that did not conform with reality.

Anyways, I can only hope that this nation will gradually have more educated voters that can understand issues and vote based on facts and not emotion.

One point I'd like to add is that America loves demonizing. It's embedded in the culture and is the only advanced nation to do it so. It is part of it's long and complex history. People in this country have always had to choose side while embracing a "gang mentality" to demonize others. It was done to Native Americans, African Americans and every immigrant group, from the Irish that once were considered sub human to present day Latinos. That's the American legacy. It's very complex but needed to be put in persepctive when discussing such matters. It'll change forms and descriptions but will be here. The challenge is having an educated and smart electorate that can see thru the fog and loud noises.

Thank you and Good Luck!

This is such a silly argument I don't even know where to begin. I get the Fox News' narrative some of you follow but I also can't help but wonder why and how you failed to realize the silliness in a loaded statment with buzz words such as this.
