Hot Lotto

Game will also see changes to number pool and prizes

By Todd Northrop

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Starting Sunday, Tennessee Lottery players will be able to purchase tickets for Hot Lotto, a multi-state game currently played in 14 states and Washington, D.C.

Hot Lotto is a multi-state drawing-style game similar to Powerball and Mega Millions.  The all-cash jackpots begin at $1 million and average between $5 million and $6 million.

Tickets cost $1 each, and a "Sizzler" option that triples all non-jackpot prizes costs an extra $1 per ticket.

Drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 9:40 p.m. Central, with Tennessee's first participating drawing on May 15.

Hot Lotto also sees first changes in 5 years

Also Sunday the Hot Lotto game will undergo its first changes since adding the Sizzler option in 2008.

Eight white ball numbers will be added, increasing the number of white balls from 39 to 47. The Hot Ball numbers remain at 19. Therefore, the new game matrix is 5/47 + 1/19.

The new jackpot odds are 1 in 29,144,841, while the new overall odds of winning are 1 in 17.

The minimum jackpot will continue to be $1,000,000, with each rollover adding at least $50,000.  However the advertised jackpot is now an all-cash "taxes-paid" amount — jackpot winners will be paid out the full advertised amount instead of the previous annuity.

The complete set of new prize payouts are:

  • Match 5 numbers plus the Hot Ball: Win the jackpot as all-cash, taxes paid
  • Match 5 numbers without the Hot Ball: $30,000, or $90,000 with Sizzler purchase
  • Match 4 numbers plus the Hot Ball: $3,000, or $9,000 with Sizzler purchase
  • Match 4 numbers without the Hot Ball: $100, or $300 with Sizzler purchase
  • Match 3 numbers plus the Hot Ball: $100, or $300 with Sizzler purchase
  • Match 3 numbers without the Hot Ball: $6, or $18 with Sizzler purchase
  • Match 2 numbers plus the Hot Ball: $6, or $18 with Sizzler purchase
  • Match 1 number plus the Hot Ball: $3, or $9 with Sizzler purchase
  • Match the Hot Ball only: $2, or $6 with Sizzler purchase

The first drawing that includes the game changes is on Wednesday, May 15.

Hot Lotto winning numbers are published every Wednesday and Saturday on Lottery Post's lottery results page, minutes after the drawing occurs.

The complete list of participating Hot Lotto jurisdictions is:  Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia.

There is a big advantage to this computer game over the other ones Tennessee has:

With this one, Tennessee doesn't get to program the computer.

Heh,heh,heh,heh,heh...

The Dragon Lady's gonna kill me for that but it had to be said.

She'll probably have those guys in the black helicopters buzzin' my trailer again by noon or so.

They'll probably have the megaphones yellin' stuff at me again:

"Hey Boy! Whatcha doin' son?"

"Some folks 'roun heah oughta learn to keep they mouths shut, boy!"

"You heah me, boy?"

And then they'll do the searchlights on me all night again as usual.

I hate that.

GASMETERGUY

With this game I might even play a dollar or two seeing that 'Becca can't manipulate the outcome.

am just going to wait to jackpot in that 5/6m range before i play

sense i always play MM/PB even at starting jackpots, sense if i won, i sure be happy"just a buy a middle like 400k home, then muti million one lol

odds are a lot better then MM.  however both i don't count on winning,i just play it for fun of the dreams of what the hell if i did.

so $6,750,000 is what u get in tn atfer withholding 25% rate  on  MM starting jackpot at cost of 1 buck

so it needs to be around that for my 1 buck go to it, then buying 1 more  MM ticket

also i would like to thank the 15 other states for growing current jackpot to 4.72 Million Cash Value

atfer it rolls 1 more time, tennessee will be happy  to enter the game and steal it away form u guys

just like florida  going to join MM in a week and steal current MM jackpot  form rest of states  that been growing it high rofl

joking aside

am sure very confused on state withholding taxes paid part of this hot lotto game

as in Vermont: 6% State Tax is with hold in there state for lottery wins:"they play hot lotto also"

does that mean if someone in tennessee and Vermont both win same jackpot of say 10m cash

tennesee player gets 5m  as do Vermount player 5m? into there bank account as all withholding taxes paid

but Vermont withholds 25% + state 6%. for a total of 31% for witholding, but tn only withholds total of 25%

so does that mean Vermount winner and other states that have state taxes withhold are getting more money then TN folks on same amount of money?

more money in form of " more money paid in taxes" then does tennessee players to be clear

or does hot lotto  only pay the fed 25% rate and not states taxes

just confused when they market it withholding taxes paid ,and but ever state is diff on withholding taxes....................

i just want to know if TN players are getting bad end of this deal, and higher tax players are getting better deal,

sense tn players will be paying for there higher taxes" where u think money to pay taxes comes form folks , a prize pool of money form all players who buy a ticket  ofc"

thro ether way, this is better pick 6 game then tn "cash" pick 6, what a joke our state pick 6 is,  rolls slower then our old Pick 5 they killed for pick 6 sales

they should just bring back old pick 5"like it was"

am very happy overall,  now i have 3 jackpots games /PB/MM/Hot "when its above 5m" that if i won, they give me more money  then i needed to travel and do all things i want"just bigger jackpots = more bling bling as i do so"

If nobody wins it Saturday, what will the all-cash jackpot be?  The current advertised amount plus minimum increase?  Or the current cash option amount plus the increase?

I had it all figured out till I read this.  LOL

As far as winners in one state "winning more" than winners in a state with less taxes.  I see it the same as the jackpot on PowerBall where I have to pay almost 8% while a Californian winner pays nothing.  It's always been like that.  You choose the state you live in, and pay the taxes where you live.  At least with Hot Lotto, each winner comes out with the same amount of $$$ no matter where they live.  With the other multi-state lottos, the winner really does get more or less depending on their state of residence.

Match 5 numbers plus the Hot Ball: Win the jackpot as all-cash, taxes paid

I like the idea of taxes paid. Less headache and less paperwork. Just take the money and enjoy it.

One thing I didn't realize about the game change...  They are doing away with the annuity option.  Hmm.  I have said in another thread that I think that I would prefer the annuity, for the steady income stream.  I guess now if I win, I'll just have to find my own investment(s) to get that steady income stream.

It looks like from what I read earlier today, the "taxes paid" thing might just be how they're advertising the prize amount ... you would actually get more, which would include what would need to be paid for taxes.  It kinda sounds like the tax reporting and such will not actually change.

I can't imagine them just saying, "here's the bag of cash" ... and end it at that.
