TRENTON, N.J. — For the second year in a row, the New Jersey Lottery is conducting a month of 'Red Ball' drawings that will occasionally double some evening drawing prizes.

The 2nd Annual Red Ball promotion is for players of the evening Pick 3 and Pick 4 games.  The Red Ball promotion doubles all prizes for both the Pick 3 and Pick 4 evening games every time the Red Ball is drawn. The Red Ball is guaranteed to be drawn at least once every seven days during the promotional period.

The Red Ball promotion starts September 2, and continues until September 29.

Carole Hedinger, Executive Director, says of the promotion, "The Lottery marketing team is always working on new ways to excite our players and enhance their winnings.  The Red Ball promotion is a great time for new players to get in the game and for all our players to win even bigger."

Each night during the promotion, following the regular Pick 3 and Pick 4 game draws, another drawing will be conducted from a separate game machine that contains six white balls and one red ball.  If the red ball is drawn, all prizes for both the Pick 3 and Pick 4 evening games will be automatically doubled.

If a white ball is drawn, it will be removed from the mix and the next night the draw will be from the remaining five white balls and one red ball.  A white ball will be taken out every night until the red ball is drawn.  Whenever the red ball is drawn, all seven balls are then replaced for the next evening drawing.

The winning numbers for all New Jersey Lottery games are published on Lottery Post's New Jersey Lottery Results page soon after each drawing.  The prize payouts for each game drawing are available by clicking the "Payouts" link that appears next to each draw result.

It's good to see they want people to win by removing one ball, even though the odds of getting a red ball are still tough.

The Red Ball promotion reduces lottery profits by approximately $2.6 million, therefore I am all for it! Evil Smile

It probably won't happen, but after six drawings it could create a guaranteed double prize and interesting to how much the volume of play will increase for that drawing. It's a very nice promotion from a player savvy state lottery.

Yeah, that would be interesting to see if there is heavy action on the 7th day, if it comes.

Of course, with NJ being a pari-mutuel Pick3/4 state, there is no risk to the lottery, they just payout 100% of funds that 1 night instead of 50%.

I wonder if this is just a promotion? In CA, they have promotions periodically, not with pick 3, but with higher payouts for a period of time on some games. This usually happens when there is excess cash in the reserve fund, and they need to "burn it off" (as required) with promotions or bonus prizes.

This is cool! Players have something new to try. Definitely players will love this one especially they have a chance to win bigger prizes. I would love to try this one too!
