A Rockland, Massachusetts, man not only won the lottery Thursday morning, but also used the winning ticket to help him avoid a speeding ticket in Hingham.
According to Hingham police Sergeant Steven Dearth, a man was driving on Sharp Street around 11 a.m. when he was pulled over for going 49 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone.
"[The officer] stopped the car, and when he walked up to the car he could see the driver was shaking ... at first he didn't know what was the issue," Dearth said.
The driver told the officer he had just won the lottery for $50,000, and was on his way to Braintree to cash the ticket, Dearth said.
The officer was skeptical, Dearth said, until the driver showed him the winning ticket.
Officer just stopped driver for speeding & driver was shaking. Said he just won $50K & was going to Lottery HQ. Showed him scratch ticket.

Lottery officials said that Lowe filled out the paperwork on Thursday and left with $35,000 — after 30% was taken out in federal and state taxes.
A jubilant Lowe wasn't photographed by the state Lottery and normally meager payouts like Lowe's don't attract media attention, a spokeswoman said.
"It came as a big surprise. It's certainly not the fashion in which most people make their way here to claim a prize," spokeswoman Beth Bresnahan said. "He was very excited and a little shaky because of all the excitement."
Lowe could not be immediately reached for comment on Friday. His mother told local media that the family is slightly unnerved by all the attention surrounding her boy's newfound wealth because there have been a rash of robberies and purse snatchings in area.
Dearth said the officer never asked for the driver's license, but gave him a spoken warning and cautioned him about getting to Braintree safely.
"He said, 'You've got to get there slow, otherwise you won't be able to use your winnings'," Dearth said.
Only A 2.00 scratch off ticket, it was meant to be for him....Congratulations is in order......"WOW"
Lol had the officer given him a ticket he could have afforded to easily pay it off but he wasn't though he could. Funny good story
Yep, maringoman, this lottery winner (and all those driving and walking near him) was lucky at least twice!
That's a sweet payout for a $2 ticket!

What if that officer was one of those criminals impersonating an officer? Hmmmm...Never show your valuables to any "officer" that pulls you over, because all officers are not created equal.
Is 35.0000 $ a " meager payout " ( as the article said) , for doing a 30 second job ?

Job description-buy ticket and scratch it ....
I was thinking the same
Cool ticket. I'm going to keep a $100 winner in my car and see if i can get the same break.
LOL they'll probably tell you that that little amount wont even cover your court costs as they write the ticket
This is why I am hiring a car to drive me when I win the megamillions jackpot
That would definitely be wise. I am sure most past winners are still shaking when they arrive at lottery headquarters.
Here is my deal offer to my local police department after I win the powerball and mega millions I will give my local police department free armored hummer in exchange I want the ambulance , local fire truck and 10 police cars all escorting me doing 120 mph to the lottery office and I want their chips too on motor bikes doing acrobatics too while speeding ahead at 120 mph lol.
Congratulation on your winning ticket and not getting a ticket
