Sunday, April 6 marks the start of the Wisconsin Lottery's first new lottery game in over 10 years.
The new $2 lotto game called "5 Card Cash" is modeled after the popular poker-themed games found in several state and provincial lotteries throughout the United States and Canada.
While most Wisconsin Lottery games either have the opportunity to win instantly, or in the nightly drawing, 5 Card Cash offers both. Players will be able to win one of several instant prizes at the time the ticket is purchased, and tickets are also eligible to win a prize in the drawing that evening.
"It's the best of both worlds," said Michael Edmonds, Lottery Director. "It's a chance to win during the day when you buy your ticket and another chance to win that night."
The new $2 game works like this: When players buy their ticket, five card symbols are printed on it. If the five card symbols include a pair of 8's or better or a higher winning hand, like three of a kind, a flush or a full house, they win instantly. The top prize on the instant portion is $5,000 for having a royal flush.
For the nightly drawing, the lottery will draw five random card symbols from the 52 total cards. A player then wins if they match at least two of the five cards drawn. If they match all five, the player wins the top prize of $250,000.
"We're excited about it — it's the Lottery's first new Wisconsin-only lotto game in over ten years," said Edmonds.
"5 Card Cash" tickets are Quick Pick only, meaning that no playslips are needed. The drawings will be conducted by the Lottery each night between 9pm and 10pm. Winning cards will be published on Lottery Post's Wisconsin Lottery Results page soon after each drawing.
The overall odds for winning a prize on "5 Card Cash" are 1:2.9. The odds of hitting the $5,000 instant top prize are 1:649,740. The odds of winning the $250,000 prize are 1:2,598,960.
VIDEO: Watch the advertisement
Poor Wisconsin, they lost the game, and now they have to put up with this crappy game. How much can one endure in one weekend?.
It just started. Let the players decide if it's good or not.
Fact is, states are looking for new and different games to bring out, and charging $2 to increase revenue. If they don't try new games the old ones get very stale and players lose interest.
Two bucks for two draws does'nt seem like a bad deal, but with most games going 2$, it's becoming quite expensive and some players can only choose one. I'm think we'll see State lotterys go to 2$ soon.
Congratulations Wisconsin Lottery
The video advertisement was poorly choreographed...lol
Trying hard to come up with money...hehehe
Whoops! R u from Wisconsin, helpmewin? hehehehe....
I think you're right. The states might collude and raise the price of tickets to $2 or more and do it all at once to make sure that people will not be tempted to drive to neighboring states to play there. I need to wean myself off of the online games like I did scratch tickets. Idk how though
The overall odds for winning a prize on "5 Card Cash" are 1:2.9.
Most of the other state's 5 Card Cash games are 1 in 3.66 but their games are "Jacks or better" and this game is "Eights or better".
Go with badger 5 instead, the odds kind of suck on this one.
I don't like that it's Quick Pick only, just used to playslips I guess.
I always play QP too, but only with PB and MM.
Awwwww...they'll survive...hehehehe
They have this game in Maryland. Be warned that it is equally addictive as scratch off tickets.
I guess they don't want too many easy wins! But then again, if you want to play a card game honestly you have to pick off the top of the card pile, how do we know the computer draw is picking the cards from the top though?
At least they didn't rush into anything LOL
If players could pick their own cards, what would stop them from picking a Royal Flush, cash their $5000 winning ticket, and repeat several times every day?
Is there any difference between this game and an instant scratch off game?
The auto prizes are about the same as your average $2 scratch-off, but is the difference is nightly drawing. Not many $2 scratch-offs if any, pay $100,000 to $250,000.
Nowadays lottery drawing games are looking more like instant scratch off games when it comes to prizes and odds. Oh, I forgot Powerball is a $2 premium lottery game.
It's not bad for a draw game, but scratch games still got it beat.(mostly)
This poker game has total payout of 60% where $2 scratch games can be 65% or more. We have a $2 scratch game with a large $750,000 top prize ($1.3M annuity) and still around 63% total payout. Typical average return is higher too around 55%, where this poker game would be less than 50%, although overall odds 1 in 2.9 are better than the 1 in 4.5 for the scratcher.
Yep, they keep going for more complex games, with higher payouts, approaching scratch games. Pretty soon they'll follow these new $2 games with scratch game pricing too, and have $5, $10, $20 games for the high rollers.
All the while outlawing casinos and online gambling in most places, while the state enjoys their monopoly gambing operation and captive market.
Slot machines have hybrid games where the jackpot isn't necessarily matching 3, 4, or 5 exact symbols; two or three symbols starts a bonus game. Even casino table games added jackpot features to their layouts. What makes these 5 Card Cash games different, unless you buy your tickets right before the drawing, players will have to wait for the full results. With overall odds of 1 in 2.9, players will get more plays for their $2 too.
They would still have to draw the Royal Flush
Well, of course, comparing casino payouts to lottery payouts is no contest: casino beats the lottery payouts by a wide margin in every single game except for Keno, the worst game in the house.
It's a hybrid game where players can win instantly and/or win something on the nightly drawing.
The tickets have five cards randomly selected and "hands" with a pair of Eights or better win something and higher hand values win more. If a player "is dealt" a Royal Flush, they win $5000. Hands less than Eights and Royal Flushes can still match the five drawn "cards" and win $250,000.
we have the same game, i just don't have a plan
Yes.
It takes a smart lottery player like you to explain the difference. Explain?
You ain't gotta scratch nothin'.
Very advanced, ergonomically speaking.
Nothing I guess
I suppose if you had really good card players they could figure the game out
and win a lot right? Like those Vegas Card players, like counting cards?
So no playslips is probably a good idea maybe.

???????????????? Whats up no posting
Connecticut has the same game, the prizes almost similar to the Wisconsin's, BUT the overall odds in Connecticut Five Card is 4.2 which is NO GOOD!
