Iowa Lottery no longer sharing Illinois Lottery drawings

Iowa LotteryIowa Lottery: Iowa Lottery no longer sharing Illinois Lottery drawings

State started conducting its own Pick 3 and Pick 4 drawings Wednesday

DES MOINES, Iowa — Starting this week, it won't be share and share alike for Iowa Lottery players anymore.

Beginning Wednesday, April 16, Iowa Lottery players finally got their own Pick 3 and Pick 4 lottery numbers. Iowa has been sharing Pick 3 and Pick 4 numbers with Illinois since the games were introduced, in 1998 and 2003, respectively.

The time of the drawings also changed slightly, as did the deadline by which players must purchase tickets for the drawings.

In a news release, Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich said that the shared system has led to some player questions as each state's games have changed over time.

"We've heard from players wondering why we share drawing results but have separate options in each state. We think it makes sense to begin holding separate drawings to help avoid player confusion."

There were also changes in drawing times. Previously, Pick 3 and Pick 4 both had drawings twice daily in Iowa, with a midday drawing at 12:40 p.m. and an evening drawing at 9:22 p.m.

Starting April 16, the midday drawings for each game were moved to 12:50 p.m., with the sales cut-off time for the drawing at noon. The evening drawing in both Iowa games is now at 8:50 p.m., with the sales cut-off time for the drawing at 8 p.m.

I have a feeling this has something to do with Illinois mulling the move to computerized drawings.  Sure, it makes sense to conduct your own drawings.  But maybe it also makes sense to protect the Iowa Lottery Pick 3 and Pick 4 revenues once Illinois pulls the dumb move of going to computers.  (News story: http://www.lotterypost.com/news/274643)

It does seem awfully convenient. Iowa has been mum up til now so I wonder if this is based on recent developments, like posted.

If the chances of winning the jackpot are so slim, why play when the jackpot is so small? Your chances never change, but the payoff does.

If a crystal ball showed you the future of the rest of your life, and in that future you will never win a jackpot, would you still play?

Well, if Iowa added their own drawings to protect their players from computerized drawings, then big-time props to them.

Iowa is abandoning the sinking sailboat. Illinois Lottery seems to be doing a death spin. There is a guy on youtube with a channel titled "Lottery Project" that has been scratching Illinois instant tickets. It's tough to watch him going through those $20 tickets with no winners. Illinois Lottery Thumbs Down you suck!

        It's a futile effort.

Do you think that people would stop playing the lottery, if USA lotteries only do computerized drawings?

It appears either Iowa is having computerized drawings for their pick-3 and pick-4 games or they haven't updated the times and TV station for live ball drawings on their websites. PB and MM will probably remain live ball drawings, but lotteries are adding new games like "all or nothing (hit or miss)", "five card cash", and 4 and 5 minute Keno which are more difficult to draw live.

The answer to your question is probably another question; do players watch the live ball drawings?

Some states are streaming and replaying their ball drawings which a great alternative to straight computerized drawings. In other states, they just change to RNG, some players complain, and months later nobody cares.

i wonder if players will now use the recent history of only a few days worth of draw or the combined states history or wait it out untill they get few weeks worth of draws...
